Once attached to your router, the Midsize Baseplate can be used
both for mounting in the Rockler Convertible Benchtop Router
Table
(Fig. 1) and for handheld routing applications (Fig. 2) –
without the need to switch back to the router’s original baseplate.
The square edge of the Midsize Baseplate provides a stable
reference for applications involving use of a straightedge guide.
Attach the Router Plate to the Router
1. Position your router on a work surface so the baseplate faces
up. Remove the screws that hold the factory-issued baseplate
to the router’s fixed base and remove the baseplate.
2. Place the Router Plate (2) on your router’s fixed base so that
the shoulder on the plate faces up (away from the router
motor). Align the countersunk holes for your router with
the mounting holes in your router’s fixed base.
You also can use the screws that held
your router’s original baseplate as long as they are long
enough, have a flathead profile and sit flush wish or below
the surface. If all of the screws are too long, they may be
shortened, or you will need to obtain new screws that fit
your situation.
3. Locate the screws from among Parts 6-12 whose diameter
and threads match the mounting screws that came with
your router. Use the matching screws to attach the Router
Plate (2) to your router base. Fully tighten the screws
using a screwdriver or a drill at a low speed. Be careful
not to strip the screws.
Fig. 3.
Attach the Baseplate to the Router Plate
1. Fit the Baseplate (1) onto the Router Plate (2). The
countersunk side of the mounting holes on the Baseplate (1)
should be facing up.
2. Rotate the Baseplate (1) until the square end is roughly
perpendicular to the handles of your router base and the
countersunk holes align with the mounting holes in the
Router Plate (2) below. (
Making sure that the handles
are perpendicular to the square end of the Baseplate
or nearly so will make it easier to fit the mounted
router and plate into the Convertible Benchtop
Router Table [51984, sold separately].) Fig. 4.
3. Attach the Baseplate (1) to the Router Plate (2) with eight
#6-32 x 1/4" Flathead Screws (5). Fully tighten the screws.
> To avoid serious injury, unplug your router before
removing the baseplate that came installed from
the factory.
> Do NOT operate the router without securely attaching
it to the plate.
