Instruction Manual Robitronic Charger LD14Lz
Art. No. R01009
Intended Use of the Charger
The Charger LD14Lz can be directly powered off the mains current (110-240V~ 50-
60Hz) and is suitable for charging any LiPo or LiFePo batteries from 1-3 cells typically
used in rc-cars, planes or boats that is compatible with quick charging.
The charger is protected against overloading and short circuits as far as possible. It is
designed to work maintenance free. Care must be taken when determining the polarity
of the battery. It’s not allowed to operate the Charger in adverse environments, such
as:
- High humidity
- Wet conditions
- Dust or combustible gases, vapors, solvents or benzene
- High temperature (> approx. +40°C)
- Heavy vibrations
Any other use of this product apart from the description above is not permitted and can
not only damage the Charger, but can also lead to short circuits, fire, electrical shock
and personal harm. Hence, the product must not be changed or converted!
Important safety advices:
•
Before you start using the Robitronic Charger, please make sure that you’ve read
this manual completely! Keep this instruction manual in a safe place for later
reference. Robitronic is not liable for any warrantee claims or damages that occur
from a nonobservance of this manual.
•
Always load only one pack at a time.
•
Chargers and accessories are not suitable for children! They’re not toys and children
should be carefully advised, not to use primary cells, Li-based cells or batteries other
than the supported types with this charger.
•
The Charger should be regularly checked for damages, especially damages on the
mains cable, plug and housing. In case of damage, the product must not be used
until it is repaired by a qualified person. (See our contact details at the end of this
manual for further advice)
•
The Charger must be protected from dust, moisture, direct sunlight, heat and rain.
This product can only be used in arid rooms.
•
While charging, the Charger must not be covered as the cases functions as a heat
sink. Make sure that air can circulate freely.
Never
leave the charger unattended!
•
During the charging process, the battery must be placed on non-combustible, heat
resistant and insolating surface. (e.g. a spare ceramic floor tile) Also make sure that
there are no flammable goods nearby.
•
The mains cable must not be altered or coiled up during use.
•
The following types of cells and configurations must not be connected to the
Charger:
- Defective cells.
- Cells wired in parallel, any cells mixed with cells of different specifications,
performance or age.
- Primary cells, NiCd & NiMH batteries;
Caution: Explosion hazard!
- Batteries that are not specified with the charging currents, this Charger employs.
- Already charged or heated batteries
- Batteries with integrated charging or discharge circuits.
•
Before charging, always check with the safety recommendations of the battery’s
manufacturer. Improper handling like reverse polarity or charging currents that are
too high may result in the explosion of the battery with considerable additional
damage.
•
The Charger’s construction corresponds to protection rating II. (double insulation)
Always make sure the insulation on both the case and the mains cable is intact
•
Keep the chargers away from transmitters (cell phones, remote controls…) as their
EMF can disrupt or destroy the Charger’s electronics.
•
When the charger is subjected to considerable temperature differences, (especially
from cold to hot) let the condensation dry up first, before you use the Charger.
Condensation water could otherwise destroy the charger.
•
If you may assume, that the Charger cannot be used safely anymore, you must
immediately stop using it and secure it against unintended operation. Such an
assumption can be made if the Charger:
- is apparently damaged.
- has malfunctions
- is stored in an adverse environment for prolonged periods of time.
Charging Batteries
•
Connect LD14Lz with a 110-240V ~ 50-60 Hz power socket. The red LED's are
flashing in the order 1A to 4A green and 4A to 1A red. The last selected charge
current LED and the LED color (red = LiPo, green = LiFePo) of the last selected
battery type lights constantly thereafter. A beep will sound to indicate the readiness
of the charger.
•
To select the battery type LiPo / LiFePo, press, before connecting the battery, the
START / SELECT / STOP button for two seconds. The charging current LED
changes accordingly LiPo = red, LiFePo = green the color.
•
Press the START / SELECT / STOP button briefly to select the charge current until
the corresponding LED lights up.
Select the charging current always lower or equal than the capacity of the battery
being charged, such as:
1000mAh capacity -> 1A charging current
2100mAh capacity -> 2A charge current
In doubt always remain with the charging current under capacity.
•
Before you plug the battery to the Charger, check the correct polarity of the
connectors.
•
Connect the LiPo or LiFePo battery pack to the charger. Choose - depending on the
cell number of the battery – the balancer connector on the charger. For batteries with
one cell use none, for 2-cell battery left plug, and for 3-cell batteries right plug -
viewed from the front.
•
Press the START / SELECT / STOP button for more than 2 seconds to begin
charging. A triple-beep sounds and the LED of the selected charging current flashes
to indicate charging the battery.
•
During charging process, the charging current adjusts, means for example at 4A
starting current the charging current decreases to 2A and 1A and the corresponding
LED flashes.
•
When charging is finished you will hear a single-beep and then ten times a double-
beep. Every minute a beep sounds to remember the fully charged battery until the
battery is disconnected from the charger.
•
The charging process can also be interrupted manually by pressing the START /
SELECT / STOP button. A triple-beep sounds and the LED stops flashing and
changes to constant lighting.
•
To start the charging process again, press the START / SELECT / STOP button for
more than 2 seconds.
•
When charging is complete, disconnect the battery from the charger - a long beep is
heard - and the charger from the power outlet.
Note: If the LEDs don’t flash when connecting the mains cable, then there’s a problem
with the Charger. Unplug the charger from the mains and disconnect the battery to
avoid damage.
Possible causes for the malfunction can be:
- The battery is connected in reverse polarity.
- The battery or a single battery is defective
- Poor wiring resulting in a loose or no connection
- Mains socket is dead or defective
- Charger is defective
Do not cover the charger so it does not overheat.
