10.3.1 Brake Unit
The Function of Brake Unit
A brake unit is used to dissipate the energy produced by the motor during a
braking process, resulting in an increased brake capability and faster deceler‐
ation of the load without overvoltage trips.
Integrated Brake Unit
Frequency Converter Fv 0.4 – 15 kW have integrated brake units. External
brake resistors are needed to activate the braking function.
The working principle of the braking unit is shown in
fig. 10-1 "Working princi‐
ple of integrated brake unit" on page 163 .
