Specific Safety Warnings
WARNING
● Since the heated electric sleeve reaches temperatures of up to 200°C, do not
touch the electric sleeve and their surrounding area at and after the welding
process.
● Warning! On the sleeve plugs voltages up to approx. 185 V can occur during the
welding process. Don’t use defective sleeve plugs!
● Don’t weld wet or water containing lines!
● Only operate the unit off the mains with a 30 mA fault current protected switch
(FI breaker).
● The welding procedure should not be repeated on the same sleeve.
● Only use in a dry environment.
● Persons (including children) whose
– physical, sensory or mental abilities or
– lack of experience and knowledge
do not allow safe operation of the device without supervision or instruction may
not use the device.
● Children may not be allowed to play with the device.

Weighted effective value of acceleration
2,5 m/s²
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration has been measured
against standard test procedures and can be used by way of comparison with
another device. The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can also
be used as a preliminary evaluation of the exposure.
Attention:
The indicated weighted effective value of acceleration can differ
during operation from the indicated value, dependent on the manner in which
the device is used. Dependent upon the actual conditions of use (periodic duty)
it may be necessary to establish safety precautions for the protection of the
operator.
2. Preparations for use
2.1. Electrical connection
WARNING
Ensure that the mains voltage is correct!
Before connecting the unit, check
that the mains voltage is the same as specified on the rating plate. Only operate
the unit off the mains with a 30 mA fault current protected switch (FI breaker).
3. Operation
3.1. Description of process
In the electric sleeve welding process (heater coil welding), the joint is completed
with the sleeve overlapping the end of the pipe. In the process, the joint surfaces
are electrically heated to welding temperature by the resistance wires (heater
coil) arranged in the sleeve, and welded accordingly. The welding unit delivers
the necessary power supply for the type of electrical welding sleeve used. As
soon as the necessary amount of heat has been conducted to the welding
point, the unit switches off automatically. The electric welding sleeve, which
contracts on heating, generates the necessary applied pressure on the joint
surfaces. To super wise a successful weld, a spot indicator on the sleeve changes
colour or an indicator pin appears (Pay attention to the manufacturer’s information
of the electric welding sleeve!).
3.2. Preparations for welding
Take care to observe the information issued by the manufacturer of the pipes
or welding sleeves. The end of the pipe must be cut off square and flat with a
REMS RAS pipe cutter (see 1.1.). In addition, the end of the pipe should be
chamfered to facilitate insertion into the sleeve. This process should be performed
with a REMS RAG pipe chamfering unit (see 1.1.) Immediately before welding,
the end of the pipe should be stripped to the appropriate insertion depth (e.g.
with a scraper) and the surface cleaned with non-adherent paper or a non-
fraying cloth and spirit or industrial alcohol. The welding surfaces must not be
touched again before welding takes place. The connecting sleeve can now be
installed.
3.3. Welding process
Insert sleeve plugs into the receptacles of the electric welding sleeve. Plug
connecting lead of the electric sleeve welding unit to the mains. Press red
rocker switch „Power on“ (1) to I. The „Power on“ (1) indicator lamp in the rocker
switch lights up. The unit tests itsef. All 3 indicator lamps light up briefly and an
audio signal is produced. The unit mea sures the resistance of the connected
electric welding sleeve. Once the unit recognizes the electric welding sleeve,
the yellow indicator lamp „Action“ (2) lights up. The welding process is initiated
by pressing the rocker switch „Start“ (3). An audio signal appears and the yellow
indicator lamp „Action“ (2) blinks. The required welding voltage will be auto-
matically set by the unit according to the size of the electric welding sleeve. At
the conclusion of the requisite welding time of approx. 1.5 min, which is also
set automatically, the unit switches off. The green indicator lamp „OK“ (4) lights
up and an audio signal is produced. In case of a defective welding, the red
indicator lamp „Error“ (5) lights up and an audio signal is produced.
After completion of the welding process, move red rocker switch „Power on“
(1) to 0. Remove sleeve plugs.
Allow the welding joints to cool naturally! Do not accelerate the cooling process
with water, cold air or similar! For ratings, see the manufac turer’s information
of pipes and electric welding sleeves.
4. Maintenance
WARNING
Pull out the mains plug before maintenance and repair work!
This work
may only be performed by qualified personnel. The unit REMS EMSG 160 is
entirely maintenance-free.
5. Action in Case of Trouble
5.1. Trouble:
Red power-on indicator lamp in the rocker switch „Power on“ (1) does not
light up.
Cause:
● Unit not plugged in.
● Mains lead defective.
● Mains socket defective.
● Unit defective.
