Triac power unit for proportional control
of electric heating
PULSER..X010 is a complete proportional power unit for elec
-
tric heating. It is available for 230V AC (PULSER220X010) and
400V AC (PULSER380X010) supply voltage. It is controlled by a
0...10 V DC signal from an external controller. PULSER...X010 pul
-
ses the whole load On - Off. The ratio between On-time and
Off-time is varied 0 - 100% to suit the prevailing heat demand. The
current is always switched at zero phase angle to prevent RFI.
PULSERX010 is only intended for electric heating control. The con
-
trol principle makes it unsuitable for motor- or lighting control.
PULSERX010 cannot control 3-phase loads.
Installation
Remove the front. The locking screw is behind the false set-point
knob. Mount PULSER...X010 vertically with the cooling flange at the
top. Use screws with a maximum head diameter of 5.5mm.
PULSER...X010 emits approx. 20W of heat which must be dis
-
sipated. Maximum ambient temperature at full load is 30°C.
Protection class: IP20.
Wiring
Supply voltage
Terminals 1 and 2. Not polarity sensitive.
Supply voltage:
PULSER220X010: 230V AC +/-10%, 50 - 60Hz.
PULSER380X010: 400V AC +/-10%, 50 - 60Hz.
Maximum current: 16A.
The supply voltage to PULSER...X010 should be wired via an
all-pole switch with a minimum contact gap of 3mm. The cooling
flange is live.
Load
Terminals 3 and 4. Resistive heater
Maximum load: 3680W at 230V (16A)
6400W at 400V (16A)
Minimum load: 230W at 230V (1A)
400W at 400V (1A)
Control
signal
External control signal (fig 2)
Terminals G1 = 0 and G2 = +.
The control signal input is galvanically separated from the mains
voltage.
Startup
Check that all wiring is correctly done and that the control signal
polarity is correct.
Check the heater resistance by measuring the resistance bet
-
ween terminals 3 and 4. It should be 14,5<R<230
Ω
at 230V and
25<R<400
Ω
at 400V.
Connect mains power and set the control signal for full output
power.
Check with a clamp-on ammeter that PULSER...X010 is delive
-
ring full continuous output.
Set the control signal for no output power.
Check with a clamp-on ammeter that no current is flowing to the
heater.
N.B. The 60 second cycle period means that you must measure
for at least 60 seconds to be sure that you are getting full output
current or no output current.
Check at intermediate control signal values that the ratio bet
-
ween On-time and Off-time follows the control signal value.
