NOTE: The factory-installed passwords are given out during training. For added security, the default pass-
words should be changed during the training session.
1. Enter your user level password.
2. Press Log On.
A Stabilizing Temperature message displays in the status bar while the device begins heating the
detector and desorber. Once the temperature is stabilized, the Calibration Warning message displays in
the status bar. Allow the device to warm-up. ( see "Warm-Up Time" below)
Warm-Up Time
Type of Start-Up Recommended Warm-Up Time
FIRST-TIME Long storage time and the atmospheric pressure changes from air transportation can cause the
migration of low-volatility contaminants into the detector itself. Once the device is powered
ON ,
such contamination slowly vaporizes due to the high operating temperatures and is swept out of
the detector device. Do not calibrate or analyze samples with the device until after a 24 hour
system burn process. This ensures that any low-volatility contaminants have been purged.

COLD-START
(Off for more than 72
hours) After the FIRST TIME burn, if the device has been powered off for more than 72 hours, power up
the device, and perform a 4 hour burn (
( see "Device Burn" on page 74 ) ), or allow it to stabilize for 12
hours.
COLD-START
(Off for a few hours) After the FIRST TIME burn, if the device has been powered off for only a few hours, power up the
device and after temperatures have stabilized, the device is ready for use.
