3. Installation
DISKFILER 2 can be installed in any Z88 with at least 128K of
expansion RAM in slot 1. When invoked, the program uses a
maximum of 24K of this memory. -
The DISKFILER 2 program resides on an EPROM which can be
inserted into either slot 2 or slot 3 of the Z88. The EPROM may be
left permanently in the Z88, or may be removed when not required
to make space for additional applications. The following procedure
must be followed whenever the DISKFILER 2 EPROM is removed
from or inserted into the Z88.
DISKFILER 2 is a true Z88 application, not a Basic program, and is
recognised by the Z88 operating system whenever the DISKFILER 2
cartridge is installed. However, it is essential to fallow the standard
Z88 procedure when installing the cartridge:
•
Switch on the Z88 by pressing both SHIFT keys simultaneously.
•
Press the INDEX key. The word INDEX will appear in at top
left-hand side of the screen.
•
Open the flap, carrying the numbers 1,2 and 3, at the front
of the machine. The screen display will blank.
•
Insert the DIMMER 2 cartridge in either slot 2 or 3.
Ensure that the cartridge is inserted with the open slot
innermost and with the serrated part of the moulding at the
bottom.
•
Close the flap. The screen display should re-appear.
DISKFILER 2 will now appear among the applications listed on the
left hand side of the index screen.
Failure to follow this procedure can result in the operating system
not properly recognising DISKFILER 2. Use of DISKFILER 2 (or any
other Z88 application) when improperly installed in this fashion
can lead to loss of data.
Once DISKFILER 2 is installed in your Z88, connect RANGERDISK
2 using the supplied cable, then connect the AC adapter supplied
with RANGERDISK 2 to a suitable AC outlet and switch on.
DISKFILER 2 may be invoked in one of two ways:
•
Place the cursor over the DISKFILER 2 entry on the list of
applications on the Index page and press the 'ENTER key.
