Point-to-point networking application
Node A multiplexes optical signals of 8 wavelength channels at the client side and transmits
the multiplexed signals to Node B. After receiving optical signals, Node B de-multiplexes
these signals and then sends them out. In opposite direction, Node B multiplexes optical
signals of 8 wavelength channels at the client side and transmits the multiplexed signals to
Node A. After receiving optical signals, Node A de-multiplexes these signals and then sends
them out. In this mode, the iTN2100-8SU-S can be used to transmit services between Node A
and Node B.
Figure 20-1 shows a point-to-point networking application with the iTN2100-8SU-S.

OADM ring network
At the local, the iTN2100-8SU-S multiplexes optical signals of 8 wavelength channels and
provides routing protection by establishing an Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (OADM) ring
network. Access points A–D can perform bidirectional add/drop multiplexing on 2-way
optical signals. In this mode, the iTN2100-8SU-S provides a point-to-point communication
router between any 2 access points. In addition, it facilitates upgrade and expansion.
Figure 20-2 shows an OADM ring network with the iTN2100-8SU-S.
