Connecting an
External Antenna
If you are in an area with weak TV signals,
or are inside a metal or concrete building,
you might need an external outdoor antenna
to improve reception. Connect the outdoor
antenna’s male F connector to the supplied
antenna adapter’s female F connector. Then,
connect the antenna adapter’s plug to the
ANT jack on the left side of the TV.
Using Headphones
For private listening, you can connect an
optional headphone with a

/
8
-inch plug to
the
*
jack on the left side of the TV. This
automatically mutes the built-in speakers.
You can also enjoy stereo sound from your
DVD player or VCR with the TV by
connect-ing a stereo headphone to the
*
jack.
Listening Safely
To protect your hearing, follow these
guidelines when you use headphones.
• Set the volume to the lowest setting
before you begin listening. After you
begin listening, adjust the volume to a
comfortable level.
• Do not listen at extremely high volume
levels. Extended high-volume listening
can lead to permanent hearing loss.
• Once you set the volume, do not
increase it. Over time, your ears adapt
to the volume level. So a volume level
that does not cause discomfort might
still damage your hearing.
Traffic Safety
Do not wear headphones while operating a
motor vehicle or riding a bicycle. This can
create a traffic hazard and could be illegal in
some areas.
Even though some headphones let you hear
some outside sounds when listening at
normal volume levels, they still can present
a traffic hazard.
Troubleshooting
Your TV is built under strict quality control
standards and should work without problems
by following the instructions in this Owner’s
Manual. However, if you encounter a
problem, the following hints might help.
Color too light or no color.
• Extend the antenna and adjust its angle
and direction.
Part of the picture is too dark.
• Be sure the batteries are fresh and
inserted correctly.
• The TV might be cold. Place it in a
location warmer than 68
º
F to warm it
up.
No picture and no sound.
• If you use an AC or DC adapter, be sure
it is correctly connected.
• If you use a DC adapter, be sure the
fuse inside the adapter is not blown.
