Cung Pieced Strips

Cung squares and rectangles from pieced strips is a one pass process.

See Figure 5

.

-  Lay the pieced strips horizontally on a cung mat.

-  Place the ruler on top of the pieced strips.  Align the le edge of the fabric just to the le of the Vercal “0” Slot and visually

align the seams of each pieced strip with the nearest horizontal line of the ruler.

-  Start with a cut at the Vercal “0” Slot.  Make addional cuts equal to the length of the square or rectangle.

Diamonds (45° and 60°)

Cung diamonds requires two passes.  In the first pass, you cut strips equal to the height of the diamond you plan to make.  Then

you posion one strip (or stack of strips) diagonally on the cung mat and cut it into secons to create individual diamonds.

See Figure 6

.  Trimmed strips of 60° diamonds can be quickly cut into 60° triangles.  Aer cung your strip into 60° diamonds and

removing the le most edge of selvage fabric, rotate the ruler to align the top le corner of your strip with the outline at the top of

the 60° line.  Cut at the Vercal “0” Cung Slot and at increments equal to the width of your strip.

First Pass:

-  Prepare and posion your fabric to cut strips.

-  Start with a cut at the Vercal “0” Slot.  Then cut strips with widths equal to the height of the diamond.

Second Pass:

-  Li the ruler.

-  Posion one strip (or stack of strips) on the mat diagonally upward to the right at the angle you plan to cut (45° or 60°).

-  Place the ruler on top of the strip.

-  Posion the lower le corner of the strip to the le of the Vercal “0” Cung Slot.

-  Align the

boom

edge of the strip with the 45° or 60° line of the ruler.

-  Make the first cut of the second pass at the Vercal “0” Slot.  Make addional cuts equal to the strip width.

-  If the strip extends above the height of the cung slots, li and reposion the ruler upwards, without disturbing the strip and

   align the

top

edge of the strip with the 45° or 60° line of the ruler, then connue cung diamonds.

6. Cut diamonds to end of strip.

5. If strip extended above height of cung slot,

move ruler up and realign strip.

cung slot

1. Posion selvage to le of ruler’s Vercal “0” Slot.

3. Make first cut at Vercal “0” Slot.

2. Align boom edge of strip with ruler’s 45° or 60° line.

4. Make addional cuts equal to strip width.

3. Cut at Vercal “0” Slot.

1. Posion strip to the le of the ruler’s Vercal “0” Slot.
