PiXtend eIO Hardware Manual
6.3. RS485
The RS485 interface is the central data interface of the PiXtend eIO devices. It allows you
to participate in a bus system and thus to exchange data with other devices and
assemblies.
PiXtend eIO fulfills the function of a "slave" in such a bus system (also called a network).
This means that information can be sent or requested to devices. A slave always only
becomes active on the bus if it is addressed by a "master", i.e. it is requested to
communicate. Direct communication between slaves does not take place.
The interface works with differential signal levels and is therefore particularly immune to
interference. It is designed according to RS-485 or EIA485 standards and complies with
the specifications of the "MODBUS over Serial Line" specification.
