2.2 Servicing space requirement
Space at the front and the rear of the system is required to service system components. The front space
requirement is based on the length of the longest system component, plus the space necessary to fit a
person servicing the system. The rear space requirements is based on space a technician would need to
service all of the parts at the rear of the unit.

2.3 PDU considerations
Quantum Corporation recommends that you install and connect the PDUs during the phase Powering the
ActiveScale X100 on page 105. If the rack you are working on already has the PDUs installed, consider
removing them from the rack to facilitate the installation of the Storage Enclosure Basics and System
Interconnects. If the PDUs are installed, and you do not want to remove them, go to About PDU
requirements on page 106 and verify that the PDUs are installed and connected correctly.
Caution: Quantum Corporation strongly recommends that you assemble the
ActiveScale X100 with the PDUs disconnected from the power drops and that

Considerations
• The cabinet length needs to allow for the front door to close after the Storage Enclosure Basics
have been installed.
• The cabinet length needs to allow space in the back for PDUs and power cables. That is, there
needs to be enough space to service the Storage Enclosure Basic fans, as well as Storage Node
and System Node node power supplies, without disconnecting PDUs or pulling power cables.
• If the power cords for the PDUs exit through the bottom of the rack, there needs to be space
between the bottom Storage Enclosure Basic and the rack frame for the cord to exit the rack.
