8.1 About PDU requirements

In this step, mount the PDUs in the rack and connect the PDUs to power.

Note:

Do not plug any ActiveScale X100 components into the PDUs until the

step

Powering the ActiveScale X100

on page 105.

Detailed technical requirements for PDUs are contained in

PDU specifications

on page 245. However, as a

high-level summary, when evaluating PDUs for ActiveScale X100 consider the following requirements:

• PDUs should support 7kW (nominal) and 8.3kW (short term maximum) of power (North America,

Japan).

• Between all the PDUs, there should be at least 35 open receptacles for powering ActiveScale X100

components.

Work with your data center electrician to ensure that the power going to, and coming out of, the PDUs is

balanced.
As some ActiveScale X100 components draw significantly more power than others, it is important that

components be plugged into PDU receptacles in a way that provides redundancy and keeps the power load

balanced. However, for purposes of determining the placement of PDUs in the rack, be aware that power

cables from components installed in both the top and bottom of the rack will need to reach adjacent

receptacles in the same PDU.

8.2 Powering on the ActiveScale X100 components

If your system uses Quantum Corporation-supplied PDUs, it powers up in this order:

• System Interconnects
• Management Interconnect
• System Nodes
• Storage Enclosure Basics
• (After 1-2 minute delay) Storage Nodes

There is a delay in starting up the Storage Nodes to allow all the disks in the Storage Enclosure Basics to

spin up completely.
