Operations

Power scale represents fracture of the max power output of the flash e.g. if you want
to trigger the flash with the half of its nominal power you have to set the scale on ½.,
when minimum power output is needed, set 1/32. To estimate what amount of light is
needed to properly expose the picture for the given ISO and aperture, you have to
use external flashmeter or shoot test pictures with various power settings. When you
want to decrease power output e.g. from ½ to 1/16 you should press TEST button to
dump the excess power stored inside the flash capacitors.
The following table represents how the power output scale is changing when you are
decreasing or increasing power output by rotating the Select Dial (14).

Test Button

If you want to test the flash without taking picture press <TEST> button once. This
feature is useful when you want to meter the flash output with the external
flashmeter. You can also trigger TEST flash via Navigator X transmitters.

Sync socket (wire triggering)

The simplest way to connect your
camera shutter with the flash is to use
sync cord (supplied as a part of the set).
To synchronize flash with camera shutter,
one end of cord (6.3mm Jack plug)
should be plugged in the SYNC socket (2) which is placed on the flash back panel.
The second end must be connected with the camera PC-socket.

It is necessary to adjust the shutter (exposure time) according to the camera
manufacturer’s advice (look for the term “x-sync speed” in your camera manual).
If you use very short exposure times pictures might goes completely black
despite the fact that flash was triggered on full power.
Flash SYNC port can be used to connect different radio or infrared flash triggers,
which are available separately (wireless power output adjustment won’t be possible).
Not every camera is equipped with PC-socket. In that case use hot-shoe
mounted triggers instead (dedicated Navigator X triggers are highly recommended).

Operations

Quadralite Pulse X flash is equipped with built-in optical slave allowing to trigger the
flash without the necessity of connection by sync cord or additional remote trigger.
There are three optical slave triggering modes to choose from. Push <S1/S2> button
to activate one of the options:

<

BUZZ

> button (8) allows to turn on or off the sound signal. When the switch is on,

the sound signal will occur when capacitors are fully charged and the light is ready
for another flash.

1.
2.

3.

OFF - optical slave is not active, S1 and S2 icons are not displayed on the LCD.
S1 – optical slave is active, S1 icon is displayed on the LCD - lamp will react on
the first flash from another strobe (Master) and it would be triggered. This mode
is useful with any flash equipped with manual flash mode e.g. other studio lights
and speedlites as well.
S2 - optical slave is active, S2 icon is displayed on the LCD -  lamp will react on
the second flash from another strobe (Master) and it would be triggered.
This mode can be used when automatic cameras with TTL preflash function are
utilized to record pictures e.g compact cameras.

Intense ambient light e.g. direct sunlight, may disrupt proper operation of
optical slave device. It is not a malfunction but a normal circumstance.
The flash would not react on the flash from another device when slave
sensor is dazzled by strong continuous light source.
Optical slave is not as reliable as sync cord or radio trigger. Any barrier
between the Master flash and Slave can obstruct the communication and
Slave won’t be triggered.
Use of dedicated wireless Quadralite Navigator X system transmitters is
highly recommended.

Buzz Function

Optical slave

The flash is fitted with an assembly of automatic safety mechanisms. In case of
malfunction flash will activate sound alarm along with error messages displayed
on LCD as follows:
