Program 4: CONGEE
Congee is a grain-based medicinal por-
ridge, usually made with rice, that has
been served for centuries in traditional
East Indian and Chinese homes.
It is used preventatively to promote
good health and long life. It is used
specifically to help the body recover
from various ailments.
You need:
100 - 200g rice
(the more, the thicker it will be)
Soaking is not necessary.
a pinch of salt
Program duration: approx. 32 minutes
Step by step:
1.
Give the rice directly into the
empty pot.
2.
Fill in cold water up to between
the two marks (about 1.4 liters).
3.
Add a little salt and maybe a
shot of oil.
4.
Place the upper Vegimat part
onto the pot and turn it clockwi-
se until the connector in the
handle of the jug and the upper
part is safely closed.
Plug the power cord to the hand-
le of the jug and into the outlet.
A beep signals the correct
connection of device and jug.
5.
Now press the Menu button to
light up the lamp "Congee". By
repeatedly pressing the Menu
button, you can switch through
all programs.
6.
With the Start button, the auto-
matic program begins.
7.
Program end is signaled by a
continuous beep. Then immedia-
tely disconnect the power cord
from the wall outlet and also
from the device.
8.
Turn the upper part open and lift
the unit from the pot.
TIP: Best practice is to "park"
the device in the plastic jug,
which you filled with cold water
before. This allows the unit to
cool and it does not dry up for
easy cleaning.

Taste and add sweeteners or season-
ings if desired. For instance, you can
sprinkle your Congee with black/white
pepper, a few drops of sesame oil and
chopped scallions just before serving.
NOTE: Not only rice is suitable for
cooking congee. Also congees from mil-
let, spelled, oats, barley, buckwheat,
wheat or even legumes such as beans,
lentils and chickpeas are well suitable.
