Flat Tires
Responding to Tire Pressure Moni-
toring System warning messages
If the Tire Pressure Monitoring System has de-
tected a severe pressure loss, a message appears
on the instrument cluster. This loss of pressure
could indicate tire damage.

Stop in a suitable place and check the indicated
tire for damage.

Park the vehicle safely
1. Stop the vehicle as far away from the driving
lane as possible. The vehicle must be parked
on a firm and flat surface that is skid-proof.
2. Switch on the emergency flasher.
3. Activate the electric parking brake.
4. Activate the transmission parking lock using
the P button on the selector lever.
5. Straighten the front wheels.
6. Get all passengers to leave the vehicle. Pay at-
tention to the traffic as they do so.
7. Set up the warning triangle at a suitable
distance.
8. Secure the vehicle to prevent it from rolling
away, e.g. by placing wheel blocks at the
wheels on the opposite side.
Sealing defective tires

tires
Damaged tires with tire sealant can burst or lose
pressure in the event of inappropriate speed or
continuous loading.

Sealing the tire with the tire sealant is only an
emergency solution enabling you to drive to the
nearest workshop.
e
Only use the tire sealant for cuts or punctures
no larger than 0.16 in. (4 mm).
e
Never use the tire sealant if the rim is
damaged.
e
Have the tire replaced by a specialist workshop
as soon as possible. Tell the workshop that the
tire contains tire sealant.
e
Tire repairs are not allowed.
e
Avoid rapid accelerations and high cornering
speeds.
e
Do not drive faster than the maximum permis-
sible speed of 50 mph (80 km/h).
e
Observe the safety information and instruc-
tions for use in the separate operating instruc-
tions for the tire sealant and compressor.
In case of a flat tire, tire defects or tire damage can
be sealed temporarily using the tire sealant pro-
vided in the vehicle.
The
tire sealing compound kit can be found in
the luggage compartment and contains:
– Filler hose
– Valve turner
– Spare valve insert
– Sticker with the maximum permitted speed
– Operating instructions
The compressor is located in the luggage
compartment:

Filling tire sealant
WARNING
Flammable and harmful
sealant
The sealant is highly flammable and harmful to
health.

Fire, naked flames and smoking are prohibited
when handling tire sealant.
e
Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
e
Keep tire sealant away from children.
e
Do not inhale vapors.
CAUTION
In the event of contact
with the tire sealant
Irritation or allergic reactions after contact with tire
sealant.

Avoid contact with skin, eyes and clothing.
e
If tire sealant gets on your skin or into your
eyes, thoroughly rinse the affected part of your
body immediately with plenty of water.
e
Change soiled clothing immediately.
e
Consult a doctor immediately in the event of an
allergic reaction.
e
If tire sealant is swallowed, thoroughly rinse out
the mouth without delay and drink plenty of
water. Do not induce vomiting. Consult a doc-
tor immediately.
