Child Restraint Systems
(Child Seats)
General safety instructions
Porsche recommends that all infants and children be
restrained in child restraint systems at all times
while the vehicle is in motion in accordance with
applicable laws.
When possible, use only child restraint systems rec-
ommended by Porsche. These systems have been
tested and adjusted to the interior of your Porsche
and the appropriate child weight groups.
Other systems have not been tested and could entail
an increased risk of injury.
The use of infant or child restraints is required by law
in all 50 US states and the Canadian provinces. The
child restraint system should be one that complies
with U.S. Federal/Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety
Standards and should be secured by a lap belt por-
tion of a lap-shoulder belt or for child seats equipped
with the L.A.T.C.H. system (

ildren, also known as ISOFIX) to the L.A.
T.C.H. anchorages.
All child restraint systems are designed to be se-
cured in vehicle seats by lapbelts or the lapbelt por-
tion of a lap-shoulder belt.
You can obtain child seats that are L.A.T.C.H. com-
patible at your authorized Porsche dealer.
e
Always observe the separate installation instruc-
tions for your child seat.
DANGER
Improper use of Child
Restraint Systems
Children could be endangered in a crash if their child
restraints are not properly secured in the vehicle.
e
Make sure that all child restraints are properly
secured.
e
Follow all child restraint instructions and warn-
ings in this manual.
A statement by the seat manufacturer of compliance
with U.S. Federal/Canadian standards can be found
on the instruction label on the restraint and in the
instruction manual provided with the restraint.
DANGER
Child Restraint on the
Passenger’s Seat
The use of a child restraint system in the passenger’s
seat can result in serious personal injury or death to
the child from an airbag deployment.
To reduce risk of injury from an inflating airbag in an
accident, Porsche strongly recommends:
e
Make sure that the
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
indicator light lights up.
>
Please see chapter "Automatic deactivation of
the passenger airbag" on page 52.
e
Always observe the separate operating instruc-
tions for the child restraint system provided by
the manufacturer of the child restraint for in-
stallation, use and proper securing of the child.
e
Only use child restraint systems recommended
for your Porsche. These systems have been
tested and adjusted to the interior of your Por-
sche and the appropriate child weight groups.
Other systems have not been tested and could
present an increased risk of injury.
e
Infants and small children should never be held
on the lap or share a seat belt with another oc-
cupant while the vehicle is in motion.
e
Children too big for a group III child restraint
system must use regular seat belts. A child is too
small for a seat belt if the shoulder belt crosses
the face or the neck of the child.
e
Choose a child restraint system according to the
weight of the child.
e
Child restraint systems that are damaged or have
been heavily stressed in an accident must be re-
placed immediately.
e
Children could be endangered in a crash if their
child restraints are not properly secured in the
vehicle.
e
Do not affix objects to child restraint systems or
cover them with other materials.
e
For maximum safety and protection, install the
child restraint system in the rear seat.
Installing child restraint systems
According to accident statistics, children are safer
when properly restrained in the rear seating posi-
tions than in the front seating positions.
Under all normal circumstances, the forward facing
child seat must be placed in the rear.
e
Do not use a child restraint system in the front
passenger seat.
Children in group 0 and 0+:
Up to 29 lbs. (13 kg)
Children of this weight must be transported in a re-
straint system
facing rearward
