INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the
Polaroid
waterproof
camera housing for Canon & Nikon SLR cameras. This
manual explains how to use the waterproof housing,
and it includes important precautions to observe while
using it. Please read this manual carefully before using
this product and retain it in a safe place for
future reference.
Every time you use the housing, follow the directions
in the Section 8 titled “Preparing the Waterproof
Housing.” To protect your camera from water damage,
you must test the housing’s water tightness before
every use.
Polaroid
will not be liable for any consequential
damages causing corrupted or lost data, a damaged
memory card or damaged battery pack or camera
which results in the failure of recording photos or
movie clips.
SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
• The precautions described herein are for ensuring the safe use of
the waterproof housing and for preventing danger and injury to
yourself and others and to protect your camera from
water
damage.
• Thoroughly read and understand the details described in
this
manual.
• While using the waterproof housing underwater, pay close
attention to your current situation at all times; failure to do so may
lead to an accident.
• In the event that the waterproof housing breaks or leaks, remain
calm and swim to the surface following proper safety procedures.
• After using the waterproof housing, follow the steps in the section
for removing the camera from the housing.
• Leaving the camera in the waterproof housing and exposing it to
direct sunlight or other high-temperature locations may cause the
housing to burst or otherwise cause damage to the camera.
• Do not use the waterproof housing as a personal flotation device
(life
preserver).
• Do not use the waterproof housing at water depths exceeding
130-ft (40 meters); doing so may cause the housing to leak.
• When in the water, do not press the Safety Lock Lever of the
waterproof housing with unnecessary force; doing so may warp
the casing and cause leaks.
• When cleaning the waterproof housing, do not spray water at the
waterproof seal under pressure; this may cause the housing
to
leak.
• Other than opening the housing to insert the camera, do not
disassemble or modify the waterproof housing in any way as it
may cause the housing to leak.
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS
1 Avoid opening or closing the waterproof housing near water.
When you are installing the camera or changing the memory
card or the battery pack, choose a place with low humidity well
away from salty sea air.
2 Use only the supplied silicone grease on the waterproof seal.
Use of other waterproofing products may impair the strength of
the waterproof housing. If any other waterproofing product is
mistakenly applied, wipe it off immediately.
3 Before going into or getting out of the water, handle the
waterproof housing carefully in order to prevent damage or loss.
4 Avoid using the waterproof housing for long periods of time in
hot temperatures. The waterproof housing interior will become hot
which can damage the camera. When using the housing on hot,
sunny days, do not leave the waterproof housing in direct sunlight
and turn off the camera regularly.
5 Remove sand and debris from the spaces surrounding the
buttons and zoom lever by rinsing them with water. Do not use
the buttons or zoom lever while sand or debris is present.
6 Battery life is reduced in cold temperatures. When you use the
waterproof housing in very cold places, keep it warm by putting it
in a bag whenever you are not shooting. It is not advisable to use
the waterproof housing in temperatures below the freezing point.
ABOUT WATER LEAKAGE
If the waterproof housing leaks, stop using the camera immediately.
Do not use it in this state under any circumstance. If you use the
camera in this state, it may cause a fire, electric shock, or personal
injury. Remove the battery pack and thoroughly wipe the waterproof
housing interior and the camera with a clean, soft cloth until they
are dry.
NOTES REGARDING THE WATERPROOF HOUSING
1 Because the waterproof seal is designed to ensure that the
waterproof housing remains waterproof, it is important that you
observe
the
following:
• Perform a rolling motion with your fingertip to remove the
waterproof seals from the waterproof housing so you do not
damage
the
seals.
• Do not dig your fingernails into the waterproof seals or use
pointed or metallic objects to remove them.
• Do not forcibly pull a waterproof seal. Forcibly pulling a seal
may overstretch it which may cause the waterproof housing
not to close properly, resulting in leaks.
• While attaching a waterproof seal, do not forcibly twist or pull
the seal. Extreme care should be taken to ensure the
waterproof seal is level around the entire length of its
mounting
groove.
• Before every use, check to ensure that the waterproof seals
are
working
(See
Section:
PREPARING
THE
WATERPROOF
HOUSING).
2 Make sure you inspect the waterproof seals before use. Debris
(e.g. hair, sand, lint or dirt) stuck to the waterproof seal may cause
leaks. Even a single strand of hair or a tiny grain of sand caught in
the seal can cause leaks.
3 Be careful not to apply too much of the supplied grease; applying
7 Moving the waterproof housing rapidly between hot and cold
temperatures may cause condensation (water drops) to form on
its internal surfaces. If this occurs, stop using the camera
immediately, wipe off the condensation from the interior and the
camera with a soft, dry cloth and wait about two hours before
resuming
use.
too much grease to the seal may cause leaks (about a droplet
is
sufficient).
4 Use your clean fingers to apply grease to the seal. Do not use
paper or cloth.
5 A damaged or cracked waterproof seal, will most likely, cause
leaks. You can purchase a replacement seal by contacting the
Polaroid
authorized licensee. Contact information can be found
at the end of this manual.
• Do not damage the waterproof seal, scratch its contact surfaces,
or allow hair, sand, dirt or other debris to accumulate between the
waterproof seal and the housing. This may cause an accident,
present a burn hazard, or cause the housing to leak.
• Do not use the waterproof housing in water at temperatures above
104°F (40 °C); this may cause an accident, present a burn hazard,
or cause the housing to leak.
• Do not leave the waterproof housing in direct sunlight, inside a car
in hot weather, or near a heater; this may cause an accident,
present a burn hazard, or cause the housing to leak. If you have to
leave it in the sun, cover the housing with a towel.
• Do not subject the waterproof housing to shocks. The lens may
shatter and lead to personal injury.
PREPARING THE WATERPROOF HOUSING
1 Before securing the camera in the waterproof housing, inspect
the housing to make sure there are no visible problems.
2 Make sure the exterior is not damaged and make sure the lens
window is not dirty. If it is dirty, gently wipe it with a clean, soft,
dry
cloth.
3 Remove the waterproof seals from their mounting grooves by
performing a rolling motion with your finger tips to remove the
seals. Do not dig your fingernails into the seals or use pointed or
metallic objects to remove it.
4 Check the mounting grooves. Make sure there is no debris (e.g.
hair, sand or dirt) attached to the seals or sitting within the
mounting
grooves.
5 To remove debris from the seals, put about a droplet of grease on
your index finger then hold the seal between your index finger
and thumb and slide your fingers around the seal. Be sure to clean
and lubricate both seals.
6 To remove debris from the seals’ grooves, wipe thoroughly with
a clean, dry, lint-free cloth making certain that the cloth touches
both the sides and the bottom of the groove as you clean around
the entire length of the groove.
7 Make sure the seals are not cracked or damaged. If a seal is only
slightly damaged, apply grease to the entire waterproof seal then
reattach the seal. If a seal develops open cracks or fissures,
replace the seal with a new one.
8 Put about a droplet of grease on your index finger, hold the seal
between your index finger and thumb, and slide your fingers,
