3. Focus the loupe on focal plane plate No. CCR-12262. The focal plane plate has a flat glass
surface. When this plate is loaded into the film holder on the camera, this glass surface is
accurately located at the focal plane of the camera. The loupe on the plate allows you to see a
magnification of an image focused through the camera lens onto this focal plane surface.
Use a scribe mark on the glass surface to focus the loupe to your eye. Each observer will have
to focus the loupe individually. Seek the maximum contrast between the dark area of the
scribe mark and the brightness of the background. When the sharpest image of the scribe
mark on the focal plane is obtained, lock the loupe eyepiece with the locknut.
4. Set the camera for collimation test, as follows:
a. Remove the lens cap.
Note: Be sure the camera lens is clean before the camera is collimated.
b. Remove dark slide from film holder. Open door on film holder.
c. Place the focal plane plate No. CCR-12262 into the film holder as if it were a film pack
(Figure 5-1). Check that the plate is fully seated to the right.
d. Set the aperture to the smallest number (largest opening).
Aperture
127mm lens = f/4.7
150mm lens = f/5.6
75mm lens = f/5.6
e. Set the shutter to "B" (bulb).
f.
Cock the shutter.
g. Trip and tape the shutter release depressed into the hand grip to keep the shutter open.
5. Measure Collimation Tracking Error at Infinity, for each lens.
a. Sight through the focal plane loupe at infinity tube target. Aiming of the camera from this
parallax test should be adequate. Make focusing correction, if required, so that 40mm
grid is seen clearly, as shown in Figure 5-6.
b. Obtain the sharpest focus of infinity tube target image through each lens. Mark this location
on the distance scale of each lens, as shown in Figure 5-7.
