ABOUT YOUR PMI ROPE

ROPE CLASSIFICATIONS

This rope is a Life Safety Rope. Your life (or someone else’s) may

depend on it, possibly time after time. PMI goes to great lengths

to make this rope the best in the world, maintain high quality

assurance standards, and provide you with the maximum amount of

information possible. The rest is up to you. Your personal safety is your

responsibility. Please take it seriously. We do.

PMI Classic Static Kernmantle ropes are designed with a braided

sheath over continuous stranded core. The continuous stranded core

is designed to prevent spin under load and limit stretch. The braided

sheath offers protection to the inner load-bearing core from dirt

and abrasion. These ropes are NOT dynamic ropes and should not

be used as belay lines in severe dynamic load situations. Because

of its low stretch, serious injury could occur to the climber and/or

equipment if the rope is subjected to severe dynamic (shock) loading.

Ropes intended to be used as dynamic ropes should comply with UIAA

Dynamic Rope standards or EN 892 - Dynamic Mountaineering Ropes.

PMI Classic ropes conform with industry standards including National

Fire Protection Association (NFPA 1983) and Cordage Institute (CI

1801). The smaller diameter ropes are for personal escape, handlines,

and safety lines. The larger diameters (10 - 12.5 mm) have been

developed for higher load applications such as occur in professional

work and rescue. These ropes will provide more stability and less

elongation in ascending, raising, and lowering situations while ropes

complying with CI 1801 (Low Stretch) or EN 1891 - Low Stretch

Kernmantle Ropes will provide lower Peak Forces during dynamic

loading.

PMI Isostatic Ropes conform to NFPA 1983 and CI 1801 as well, but

provide lower elongation under load and thus lower shock absorbing

ability than PMI Classic Static ropes.  Choose PMI Isostatic for rigging

highlines and long hauls where rope elongation can be an issue, but

always keep in mind the lower shock absorbing ability.

PMI Access Pro Ropes are Low Stretch Kernmantle ropes that conform

to EN 1891.  This rope design has a specially engineered core of

continuous fi lament high-twist nylon bundles and a 32 strand polyester

yarn sheath construction. This rope is an excellent choice for any rope

access or work positioning application (per EN 1891).

Ropes are given type designations in the various standards to which

they conform.

CI 1801 CLASSIFIES ROPE AS FOLLOWS:

LOW STRETCH - Ropes with 6-10% elongation at 10% of Minimum

Breaking Strength

STATIC - Ropes with less than 6% elongation at 10% of Minimum

Breaking Strength

NFPA 1983 CLASSIFIES ROPE AS FOLLOWS:

ESCAPE - Single-purpose, one time use emergency personal escape

rope.

LIGHT USE - designed for light-use loads (300#) or escape

GENERAL USE - intended for general use loads (600#), light use loads

(300#) or escape.

EN 1891 CLASSIFIES ROPE AS FOLLOWS:

TYPE A - ropes, are low stretch kernmantel ropes designed for general

use by persons in rope access including all kinds of work positioning

and restraint, in rescue and speleology.

Type B - ropes, are low stretch kernmantel ropes of a lower

performance than type A ropes, requiring greater care in use.

Ropes not specifi ed as Type A or Type B include PMI Classic Static EZ-

Bend ropes as shown in the table. These ropes inherently have lower

elongation and energy absorption properties than required by EN

1891.

BEFORE USING THESE ROPES the user is responsible to determine

whether these ropes are suitable for the intended use and their

compatibility with all hardware to be used.

PMI LIMITED WARRANTY

PMI products are warranted to the original retail purchaser to be free from defect in material and workmanship for a period of one year. PMI will repair or replace the item without charge provided

inspection at our factory discloses no misuse or alteration, which, in our judgment, has affected the condition or functioning of the product. All implied warranties imposed by law in connection with the sale

of PMI products are also limited in duration to a period of one year. PMI expressly excludes and shall not be liable for any consequential damages arising out of any breach of the express or implied

warranties on sales of PMI products. Because of the high risks involved in high angle rope work such as, but not limited to, rescue, rope access, caving, rappelling, rock climbing and mountaineering, no further

warranties exist or are implied by PMI. Regulations issued under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act require us to include the following statement: some states do not allow limitations on how long an implied

warranty lasts nor the excluding or limitation of incidental or consequential damages, so the above limitations may not apply to you.

WARNING

ABOUT YOUR PERSONAL SAFETY

Your personal safety is just that...... personal. You are responsible for your

own safety. We build the best possible products for the purposes stated,

but it is up to you to be responsible for applying these, and other products,

safely.

Your personal safety is infl uenced by the decisions you make. Take the time to

read and understand these instructions, and get the instruction you need for

your application. The high angle environment is a potentially dangerous one.

We hope you take it as seriously as we do.

Proper training, good equipment and a personal commitment to safety

will lessen the danger of rope work. However, take care not to become

complacent. Inspect your equipment, rigging, anchors and that of others

around you for safety at all times when you are in the vertical environment.

WARNING

Activities involving the use of the life safety rope are inherently dangerous.

Such activities include, but are not limited to, ascending and descending fi xed

lines, hauling, highlines, positioning, and belaying. Special knowledge and

training are required to use this product. Read this brochure entirely. If a

copy was not provided with your rope, or you have lost yours, contact PMI for

a free copy. You are responsible for your own actions and decisions; if you

do not accept this responsibility, do not use this product.
