2.2
Operation
The polluted air from the external device is extracted through
the air inlet on the left side of the unit. The air passes the filter
cartridges inside the housing. The filtered air is blown back
into the workshop by the outlet of the fan housing.
The filter cartridges are cleaned individually by compressed air
pulses. This is called the RamAir™ pulse amplifier. The dust
and dirt particles are collected in the dust drawer.
2.2.1 Control
The unit is controlled by a PLC which has the following primary
functions:
- start/stop of the fan
- automatic filter cleaning
- indication of filter replacement
The PLC is located inside the FilterControl panel.
Start/stop of the fan
The integrated fan is started by a push button on the
FilterControl panel or by an external signal, e.g. from a
welding robot. When the external device stops, the fan stops
as well. During the delay time of the fan the after fumes, if
any, are removed from the external device.

Offline filter cleaning
When the fan stops while the pressure drop over the filter
cartridges is higher than 1200 Pa (4.8 in. WG), an offline filter
cleaning cycle takes place. The number of compressed air
pulses per filter cartridge depends on the actual pressure drop.
Threshold values:
- 800 Pa (3.2 in. WG): 2 pulses per filter cartridge
- 1000 Pa (4 in. WG): 4 pulses per filter cartridge
- 1200 Pa (4.8 in. WG): 6 pulses per filter cartridge
Online filter cleaning
The automatic filter cleaning system is activated as soon as
the pressure drop exceeds 1500 Pa (6 in. WG) during use. It
continues
7
until the pressure drop is below 1400 Pa (5.6 in.
WG).
Forced filter cleaning
If the pressure drop has remained below 800 Pa (3.2 in. WG)
during 30 running hours of the system, an online filter
cleaning cycle takes place (1 pulse per filter cartridge).
Indication of filter replacement
Replacement of the filter cartridges is necessary when the
filter cleaning system cannot get the pressure drop below
1500 Pa (6 in. WG) during one hour. This is shown by the red
alarm light on the FilterControl panel.
