Solar Star Lantern (Small)
USE AND CARE INSTRUCTIONS (Please keep for future reference)
Setup time approximately 5 minutes
Your new Solar Star Lantern comes completely assembled, with one AA 800 mAh 1.2v battery, and only requires a few simple
steps to set up and enjoy the star lights seemingly suspended in space.
Gently pull your Solar Star Lantern from its package. Take a moment and look at the wire frame to ensure all the star LED
lights are properly connected to the frame. If any have come loose in shipping, they can easily be clipped back onto the frame.
You are now ready to setup and display your Solar Star Lantern.
SETUP
a.
To shape into an attractive ball, push down gently on the solar panel at the top until the slots in the panel pass over the protruding
catches (the first set is approximately 5” down from the top of the handle). The solar panel will lock on the catches, holding the
ball in place. To release the ball for storage, push down gently on the solar panel, pressing inward on the handle right above the
clips and allow the panel to slide to the top. The Solar Lantern has one additional catch located further down the handle. Push
down on the solar panel, again letting either set of catches hook over the outer edges, forming an elliptical shape.
b.
To release any of the shapes, squeeze in on the handle, push down gently on the solar panel, and allow the panel to slip upwards
past all sets of hooks.
c.
Before use, remove the solar panel’s protective clear plastic film. With the solar light turned off, place your lantern where it will
be exposed to full sun for a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours, before its first use. This will ensure the battery is fully charged,
and should provide up to eight (8) hours of nighttime illumination
.
To ensure maximum brightness and a beautiful display, hang
the lantern where it will be exposed to direct sunlight during the day.
USE
a.
Depress the on/off button, located on the underside of the solar panel once, and as darkness falls the stars will light. When storing,
turn the light off, depressing the on/off button once again.
b.
The battery may need to be replaced after a year of continuous use. Replacing the battery is easiest when the solar lantern is locked in
the ‘ball’ shape. Remove the solar panel by lifting it away from the top of the ball, angling it slightly,
carefully using a flat-head screwdriver to pry it up if needed. Open the battery compartment using a
Philips head screwdriver to remove the three (3) screws on the underside of the panel, and again using
a small flat-head screwdriver, carefully pry open the panel to expose the battery.
c.
For best results, use a rechargeable AA 800 mAh or greater 1.2v battery, inserted following the
polarity shown in the diagram. Failure to insert the battery in the correct polarity, as indicated, may
shorten the life of the battery, cause the battery to leak, or otherwise damage the unit.
d.
Close the battery compartment, making sure the battery and circuit board are on opposite sides to
prevent damage to the board when closing, and tighten each screw carefully until seated securely. Do
not over tighten. Re-seat the solar panel and battery housing in the top of the solar ball.
Care
To improve the battery’s charging capability, occasionally clean the solar panel with a soft cloth. Over a period of time, depending on its
exposure, the epoxy forming the surface of the solar panel, may take on an opaque appearance. This is perfectly normal and will not affect
the charging of the battery.
During unpacking or handling should any of the wire ribs become unhooked from the metal ring at the top or bottom of the
lantern, they can easily be re-attached by hooking the end of the rib into the hole in the ring.
Do not dispose of batteries in fire or in landfills. Batteries should be recycled or disposed of as per state
and local guidelines.
