2.
Although the PLIDCO Clamp+Ring can be installed at any orientation, to facilitate installation and
tightening of the clamping studbolts, it’s advantageous to orient the split line between the two clamp
halves horizontally. In order to accomplish this on larger PLIDCO Clamp+Rings supplied with
hinges, a second crane may be necessary to rotate the Clamp+Ring after the first crane has lowered
the Clamp+Ring on to the pipe.
To reduce the weight lifted by the crane, each ring of the Clamp+Ring assembly can be installed
separately, positioning the rings so that the tie studbolt holes align.
3.
Assemble the PLIDCO Clamp+Ring loosely on the pipe, centered over the PLIDCO Fitting, making
certain the yellow painted ends are matched. The spacing on both ends between the PLIDCO
Clamp+Ring and the PLIDCO Fitting should be approximately the same. The definition of a PLIDCO
Fitting as used in these instructions is the fitting that the PLIDCO Clamp+Ring is being assembled
around.
4.
Leave
approximately six (6) inches of clearance between the inside tie studbolt nuts and the
PLIDCO Fitting. This should allow adequate room for welding of the PLIDCO Fitting if required. If
the PLIDCO Fitting is not to be welded the PLIDCO Clamp+Ring can be positioned closer if desired.
See Figure 1 for this setup and labelled components of the PLIDCO Clamp+Ring.

5.
With the tie studbolt lugs in alignment, insert the tie studbolts. Hand tighten a nut on each side of
the lugs for a total of four nuts for each tie studbolt. Ensure there is full nut engagement by having
a minimum of 1/4 inch (6.4 mm or two threads) of the studbolts extending beyond the outer nuts.
6.
Position excess clamping studbolt length on the bottom on the Clamp+Ring assembly, in order to
facilitate tightening of the clamping studbolts.
7.
A backing wrench may be required to prevent the nut that is not being tightened from turning.
8.
Torque the clamping studbolts and nuts on the PLIDCO Clamp+Ring uniformly, as indicated by the
Torque Chart for PLIDCO Clamp+Ring
. The best results are obtained by maintaining an equal
gap all around the side bars while tightening the studbolts. Ensure there is full nut engagement by
having a minimum of 1/4 inch (6.4 mm) of studbolt extending beyond the nut. The sequence for
torqueing the studbolts should follow the pattern shown Figure 2, and should be executed
repeatedly as follows:
a. 1
st
time- Hand tight or 10% of the minimum torque value to bring the 2 halves together
b. 2
nd
time - 50% torque.
