Additional Recording Features
Monitoring a Digital Source
If you have a set up like the figure below, you can monitor the source at any time, without changing the input function of the
amplifier from the PDR–19RW (you could also monitor through a pair of headphones connected to the PDR–19RW's phones jack).
When recording, or in record-pause mode, the digital source signal is always available for monitoring from the analog outs of
the PDR–19RW. Even if you're not recording, you can still monitor—useful for cueing up a disc or tape for the next recording.
1
Start the source component playing.
2
Use the INPUT SELECTOR to select the COAXIAL
or OPTICAL digital input.
Important:
If it is already set to the correct input, turn the
INPUT
SELECTOR
to another input, then back again to the correct one.
If the source is a
CD
,
MD
,
DCC
or
DAT
player, the display indicates that it
is monitoring and confirms the source component (Video
CD
s and
Laserdiscs are also displayed as
CD
s).
If the source is a Laserdisc, check that the sampling frequency is lit in
the display. If none is lit, you won't be able to record the digital audio and
you'll have to use the analog inputs.
Recording Fade Ins and Fade Outs
Sometimes, for example if you're recording just an excerpt from something, it may be better to fade in the recording, then
fade out again at the end, rather than start and end abruptly. Note that you can’t record a fade in when in synchro recording
mode (although you can record a fade out).
Recording a fade in
a
With the source playing, press FADER during
record-pause mode to fade in.
Recording starts with a gradual fade in.
Recording a fade out
b
Press FADER during recording to fade out.
After recording about five second fade out, the recorder goes into
record-pause mode. This happens in either normal or synchro record
mode.
❖
You can also just press
7
(stop) if you don’t need a fade out.
If you record a fade out during all-track sync mode, the synchro mode is
cancelled after the fade out (see page 21 for more on synchro recording).

If the recorder runs out of recording space on the disc before
