Appearance
The DVD Forum in 2000 approved the use of the DVD-Video
format for recording on DVD-R/DVD-RW discs. On Pioneer's
DVD Recorders this is referred to as recording in 'Video Mode'.
Supporting playback of DVD-R/DVD-RW discs with this type
of content is optional for manufactures of DVD playback
devices, and there are DVD-Video players, DVD-ROM drive
equipped PCs, or other DVD playback devices that do not
play DVD-R or DVD-RW discs recorded in Video Mode.

To record MPEG videos, a video capture card and
hardware or software MPEG encoder device are required.

DVD-R/RW are approved formats of the DVD Forum,
consisting of over 200 members.
The DVR-109 both reads and writes DVD-R/RW and
+R/+RW. It is also capable of 6X write speeds on DVD-R
Dual Layer and +R Double Layer media types, as well as
read and write support for CD-R and CD-RW.
The RWPPI (RW Products Promotion Initiative) is an organisation of
69
companies*
whose goal is to promote DVD-R/RW products, ie. products developed on the
basis of DVD-R/RW standards governing recording and playback of DVD.
