15. Limitations
1.Preservatives
Do not use blood collected in sodium fluoride
tubes.
2.Neonatal use
Do not use for neonatal blood glucose tests.
3.Hematocrit
At normal non-fasting glucose level 70~178
mg/dL (3.9~9.9mmol/L), hematocrit in the
range of 32~56% does not affect the glucose
results.
4.Hemoglobin
Hemoglobin does not affect the glucose test result
at any level tested. Hemoglobin testing was
performed up to 16 g/dL.
5.Elevated Cholesterol and Triglycerides
Cholesterol up to 500 mg/dL (12.9 mmol/L)
and Triglycerides up to 500 mg/dL (5.7 mmol/L)
will not affect glucose result.
6.Medications
Acetylsalicylic acid (Aspirin), ibuprofen and
acetaminophen do not affect the test
results. Dopamine increased the glucose test
result. Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) decreases the
glucose test result.
Caution:
Persons suffering from severe
dehydration
should
not be tested using a capillary whole blood sample.
