PPC7 Series Variable Frequency Drive Quick Start Guide
Before you start, be sure you have the correct model for your installation:
1/2, 3/4, and 1 HP use Models PPC7-1-7A3-1-A (NEMA 1) or PPC7-1-7A3-3-A (NEMA 3R)
1-1/2 and 2 HP use Models PPC7-1-13A2-1-A (NEMA 1) or PPC7-1-13A2-3-A (NEMA 3R)
This Quick Start Guide neither supplements nor
replaces the installation guide.
2
RUN THE CABLE
• Cables to NEMA 3R rated boxes must be in liquid tight conduit and connectors to maintain the 3R rating.
• The input from the CB Panel must be 8” from motor wiring and 8” from all other house wiring. Maintain the 8” separation when
crossing other wiring.
• Cross all branch circuits at 90°.
• The motor wires should exit the building as soon as possible.
4
CONNECT THE VFD TO THE MOTOR
• Connect the motor leads in the order as shown.
• Connect the motor ground to the inverter’s grounding terminal as shown.
• Ground the motor to the well head.
• Ground the VFD to the motor with a dedicated grounding wire; bundle
the ground and motor wires.
5
CONNECT THE TRANSDUCER CABLE
• Connect the Transducer Cable as shown.
• Do not disturb the factory installed jumpers.
• Clean out the box: NO DEBRIS!
NOTE:
Before connecting the pump to the system, ‘pump out’ the well to clean
it. Be sure that the transducer is connected to the VFD and sees 0 PSI pressure.
Throttle the pump discharge to reduce the load on the motor. Once the well is clean,
proceed with plumbing the well.
Risk of electrical shock if VFD is connected to the
power wiring before hanging the box
. Always hang the VFD box before
connecting the wires to it.
Risk of electrical shock if the VFD is handled or
service with wet or damp hands.
Always make sure your hands are dry before
working on the VFD. Perform all dial setting and keying operations with dry hands.
Risk of electrical shock.
Do not change the cooling fan while power is
on to the VFD.
Fire hazard if installed with incorrect or inadequate
circuit breaker protection.
To make sure of protection in the event of an internal
fault in the VFD, install the VFD on an independent branch circuit protected by a 15 amp circuit
breaker (Model PPC7-1-7A3, 1/2 to 1 HP) or a 30 amp circuit breaker (Model PPC7-1-13A2, 1-1/2 and
2 HP), with no other appliances on the circuit.
Risk of component explosion and fire if the cables
are connected incorrectly or the wrong voltage is applied.
Apply
only the voltage specified to each terminal. Connect cables to the correct terminals as specified in
this guide.

NOTE:
Parameter 9 is used as an example. Set other parameters in the
same manner.
To reset Water Pressure Set Point (Parameter 133), see the
Installation Guide.
Step 7.1.A:
Push ‘MODE’ to display parameters.
Step 7.1.B:
Turn the knob until the display shows P. 9 (Parameter 9).
Step 7.2.A:
Push ‘SET’ to display the default set point of the selected
parameter.
Step 7.2.B:
Turn the knob to adjust the set point (see table at left).
Release the knob and push ‘SET’. The display will alternate between the
Parameter Number and the new set point.
Step 7.2.C:
Repeat for P. 22 (2 HP only)
Step 7.3.A:
Push ‘MODE’ twice to return to the standard display (Hz).
Step 7.3.B:
Push ‘SET’ to display Amps.
Step 7.3.C:
Push ‘SET’ again to display Pressure (PSI).
Continuing to push ‘SET’ will scroll through these three displays (Hz, Amps, PSI).
NOTE:
To lock or unlock settings, to display all parameters, and for
detailed information, see the Installation Guide.

MOUNTING LOCATION
• On the wall:
n
NEMA 1 rated boxes – interior only
n
NEMA 3R rated boxes – protected outdoor installation.
• Mount the VFD vertically and as close as possible to the
main CB panel.
• Leave 3” Clearance around the VFD for cooling.

3
CONNECT THE CB PANEL TO THE VFD
• Do not wire to a sub-panel – only to the main breaker panel
.
• Ground the VFD back to the building’s own ground (that is, to the
system ground from the CB panel, going to the system ground rod).
• Use a dedicated 230V branch circuit directly from the main CB panel:
15 amp CB for Model PPC7-1-7A3.
30 amp CB for Model PPC7-1-13A2.
