Appendix D: Side Shield (Optional)
Side Shields must be installed to the installed, flat Ballast Trays found on the South Supports to retain its
System Fire Class Rating. This occurs at every module that is a southeast or southwest array corner.
Some modules that are in a row of one module long and on a south array edge are both a southeast and
southwest corner. These instances require two Side Shields for the one module.

Installation
Attach Side Shield to Ballast Tray

For the east side of the array, bend the tabs opposite of the bottom flange. For mounting to the
west sides of the array, bend in the same direction of the bottom flange. Bend each tab 90°.

Place the flanges on top of the Ballast Tray. Secure the Side Shield to the Ballast Tray using the
¼-20 x 0.5” serrated flange bolts and ¼-20 serrated flange nuts. Torque to 8 ft-lbs. (

Repeat Steps 1-2 for the remaining southeast and southwest corners of the array.
NOTE: To maximize packaging density the Side Shields may arrive with the integrated rubber pads
unassembled. To assemble, use the push fastener to secure the rubber pad to the bottom of the Side
Shield.
