1. Outline
This guide describes how to replace and recover the HDDs when one or two HDDs in the main unit or the extension unit failed during the
operation in the RAID5/6 mode in the WJ-ND400 series (hereinafter expressed as ND400 series).
When an HDD error occurs, the HDD Access Indicator of the main unit or extension unit corresponding to the failed HDD lights red and the
Error output terminal is activated.
In the RAID5/6 mode, one (RAID5) or two (RAID6) HDDs failure can be recovered by reading the data from the remaining HDDs.
Replace the faulty HDDs and recover the data through the procedure given in this guide.
Important
• When two (RAID5) / three (RAID6) HDDs are faulty, the "HDD access indicator" which the fault was detected last will brink red. The
data cannot be recovered when two (RAID5) / three (RAID6) or more HDDs failed at a time.
2. Identifying the faulty HDD
The faulty HDD can be identified by the following ways
(1) "HDD access indicators" that illuminate red (or blink red).
(2) Front panel LCD
(3) Error Log in the browser GUI
"MAIN-d SWAP WARNING" or "EXTu-d SWAP WARNING"
Note: u:Unit number, d: Disk number
3. Replacing the HDD
Replace the faulty HDD by referring to the "
WJ-ND400 HDD instal-
lation guide".
4. Recovering Data on the New HDD
(1) RAID recover (recovering data on the newly installed HDDs)
is automatically started when the HDDs are replaced. During
the data recovery, the "HDD access indicator" lights orange
and red alternately.
(2) When the data recovery is completed, the "HDD access indica
-
tors" will blink green and the new HDDs start operation.
Notes:
• The data can no longer be recovered if another HDD failed during the data recovery.
• It takes at least 2.5 hours to recover the data when the HDD capacity is 500 GB.
• The recorder can be operated during the data recovery, however further longer recovery time will be required.
