BRAKE CYLINDER SERVICE
The Brake Cylinder is a subassembly of the Cartridge As-
sembly. It can be serviced with the winch on the tractor
or on a bench if the entire Cartridge Assembly is removed
from the winch. The hydraulic motor must be removed to
remove the entire Cartridge Assembly.
The procedure below assumes the brake cylinder is be-
ing serviced with the winch on the tractor, but the same
steps are followed if the cartridge assembly is on a work
bench.
DISASSEMBLY
1. Install a slotted compression tool on the winch hous-
ing cartridge opening to compress the brake springs
so that the retaining ring (323) can be removed. The
compression tool should be offset away from the
opening in the retaining ring to provide clearance for
the retaining ring pliers.
2. Compress the brake pack. Carefully remove the re-
taining ring (323). Slowly back off the compression
tool to remove the force on the brake springs, and
then remove the compression tooling.
Spring force is applied to the brake cylinder. Parts pro-
pelled by released spring force can result in death or
injury.
3. Remove the brake retainer (321), seal (316), o-ring
(322).
4. Remove friction discs (318), brake discs (319), and
brake piston (317) from the housing. These compo-
nents can be removed as a unit.
5. Remove brake piston (317), friction discs (318), and
brake discs (319) from brake retainer (321).
6. Remove the seal (316) and o-ring (322) from the brake
retainer (321).
7. Remove the springs (314), spring spacer (315), and
spring back-up plate (313).
