Depress the square rail buttons and slide the adapter
onto the metal hooks of the left outer rail, then slide
the adapter up until it snaps into place with the rail
buttons extended through the adapter holes (see
Figure 4. Attach Adapter to Outer Rail

Attach an adapter to the rear of the left outer rail,
using the same process you followed in Step 2.

Repeat Steps 1 - 3 for the right outer rail.
Attach Early-Model
Adapters to Outer Rails
(Round Hole Rack Only)
If the adapters in your rail kit resemble
the illustration to the right, use the
following procedure to install the
adapters on the outer rails before
installing the rails in the rack.
NOTE: These adapters cannot be used with threaded-hole
racks.
1.
The brackets are stamped
A
and
B
. Position an
A
bracket at the front of the left outer rail and a
B
bracket at the rear of the left outer rail.
NOTE: The outer rails are not stamped left and right. To
determine the correct positioning, make sure that, as you
install the rail, the illustration (see
) is right side up,
toward the front of the rack,and facing away from the
server.
2.
Depress the square rail buttons and slide the
A
bracket onto the metal hooks of the left outer rail,
then slide the bracket up until it snaps into place and
the rail buttons extend through the adapter holes (see
Figure 5. Attach Adapter to Outer Rail (early models)
3.
Attach a B bracket to the rear of the left outer rail,
using the same process you followed in Step 2.
4.
Repeat Steps 1 - 3 for the right outer rail.
Attach the Outer Rails to the Rack
NOTE: If you are using adapters, the rack must have a minimum
depth of 29 inches for the rails to install.

If the outer rails are extended, press the release lever
on the inside of the rail and collapse the rails.

Take the left outer rail and position it on the left side
of the rack (as you are facing the front of the rack).
NOTE: The outer rails are not stamped left and right. To
determine the correct positioning, make sure that, as you
install the rail, the illustration (see
) is right side up,
toward the front of the rack,and facing away from the
server.

On square-hole racks, depress the square buttons
on the front ends of the outer rail, slide the metal
hooks into the rack holes, then slide the rail down
until the hooks are securely caught and the
buttons extend through the rack holes (see
NOTE: Secure the rail to the rack with the countersunk
screws and cup washers from the rail kit. Attach two
washers and screws to each of the rear rails and a single
washer and screw in the lower front position. The upper
front screw hole can then be used to secure the server.
