6.3 Donning the Prosthesis
Your Ottobock team instructed you in how to don the prosthesis. The following donning tech
nique is well proven:
Prosthesis with Soft-Walled Inner Socket:
1) Pull a nylon sock or Derma Seal sock over the residual limb.
2) Slide the tip of your residual limb into the soft-walled inner socket with light pressure and pull
the soft-walled inner socket over the residual limb.
3) Pull the residual limb sock over the soft-walled inner socket.
4) Slowly push your residual limb and the soft-walled inner socket past the tight condyle blend
zone into the rigid prosthetic socket. It may be helpful if you get up in order to do so.
5) Verify the correct fit of the prosthesis.
6) Apply a sock and shoe over your prosthesis as usual.
Prosthesis with Liner and Vacuum System:
CAUTION
Silicone liner is not in full contact with residual limb
Skin irritations due to accumulation of liquid in silicone liner
►
Wear the silicone liner directly on the skin.
►
If you detect any air pockets take the liner off and don it again.
INFORMATION
►
Derma Prevent must not be used to reduce the silicone's surface adhesion because this can
cause material damage.
1) Apply donning spray to the outside of the liner if necessary (this only applies to pure silicone
liners or liners without a fabric cover). Turn the liner inside out completely.
2) Evenly roll the liner over your residual limb. Avoid soft tissue displacement, the formation of
wrinkles and air inclusions.
3) Remove the valve from the prosthetic socket.
4) Slide into the prosthetic socket. Use a donning assist if necessary so you can slide into the
prosthetic socket more easily. It may be helpful if you get up in order to do so.
5) Insert the valve.
Remove the prosthesis if it does not fit properly. Try donning the prosthesis again. Contact your
prosthetist in case of any problems.
