1. Use a marker pen to apply landmarks on the patient‘s leg
(Figure 1)
:
• The medial joint space
• Along the the tibial crest at the tibial tuberosity and 15 cm below
(Figure 2)
2. With the patient standing in a weight bearing position, take the M - L
measurement at the joint space
(Figure 3)
. Record this measurement
on the patient‘s information label.
3. With the patient standing in a weight bearing position, take from mid
patella for the above and below circumference measurements at
7.5cm and 15cm
(Figure 4)
. Record these measurements to the
patient‘s information label.
4. Mount the camera to the camera stand. Do not take images unless
the camera is mounted to a tripod. With the patient standing in a
weight bearing position facing the camera, adjust the height of the
tripod until the camera is at mid patella level.
Position the camera so that it is approximately 60 cm – 90 cm away
from the patient. Your image must capture the leg 20cm above and
below mid patella. Ensure the camera is aligned facing the anterior of
the knee to eliminate any internal or external rotation.
Before taking a picture make sure the patient‘s information label is
applied to the patient‘s thigh, approximately 10 -15 cm above mid
patella. Note: It is important it should be captured when the image is
taken
(Figure 5)
.
5. Turn the patient 90 degrees and move the patient information label
to within view of the camera. From the same distance as in Step 4,
capture the lateral view
(Figure 6)
.
