Chapter 4 - Capture images
4.9.2 Artifacts - Eye movements
The patient’s eye may move during the scan. Eye movements can result in a shift or shearing in the image,
and may be visualized by a break in the blood vessel patterns or optic disc. The image should be
recaptured if the eye movement is significant, or if it affects the scan of the fovea or optics disc. Very small
eye movements can be ignored if they do not affect important structures such as the fovea or optic disc.
The Optos software automatically detects possible eye movements (see
page 46). You should replay the frames and assess if the movement is significant.

4.9.3 Artifacts - Blinks
The patient may blink move during the scan. Blinks can result in blank B-Scans. The image should be
recaptured if the blink occurs near the fovea or optic disc. Blinks can be ignored if they does not affect
important structures such as the fovea or optic disc.
The Optos software automatically detects possible blinks (see
on page 46). You
should replay the frames and assess if this is significant.
