Perfect Pick® Cortex™ Operator Manual

OPEX Corporation

3.6.1.1. A note about the Induction zone

This zone is the entrance to the Cortex system from the warehouse conveyor
system. This zone also triggers the cameras in the OPEX Scan tunnel to start
scanning for barcode identification for each container entering the system. A
jam at this zone is different than a jam at any other zone in the system.
Typically, you can pick up a container to reset a stoppage. Not at the induction
zone. There is a sensor in this zone right next to our zone sensor, for the
warehouse conveyor system, which indicates if the zone is clear for another
container to enter (Figure 3-12).

If an operator was to pick up the container in the induction zone without
blocking the warehouse conveyor system sensor, the warehouse conveyor
system sees the space as empty and will attempt to induct another container
into the OPEX conveyor system, if a container is available. You must block the
sensor closest to the OPEX aisle before lifting the container to clear the
stoppage. This way, the warehouse conveyor system still believes the zone
has a container and will not try and induct a new container. The sensor is
highlighted in Figure 3-12.
