Flash drives are OS independent.  Hard drives formatted for Windows will not work on the Mac
unless you have switched to Windows with Fusion.  Click on the Fusion icon in the OSX dock to
start Windows7.  Login to Windows is the same as for the Mac Pro.

5.5.4 Recording to CD-ROM and DVD-ROM on the Mac Pro.

DO NOT use the optical drive on the confocal.

1. Arrange your files and directories as desired within a directory on the FV-1000 Files volume;
2. Place a blank optical disk into the drive on the Mac Pro;

a. Open drive bay by pressing the fat arrow key on the keyboard, above the ‘Delete’ key

3. Double click on the optical disk icon to open its window;
4. Drag the files into the disk window;
5. Arrange and rename the files, as needed;
6. Choose File>’Burn [disk]’, and follow the instructions.
7. Eject the disk when done.

5.5.5 Networked file transfer to remote servers from the Fluoview Mac Pro

1. Click on the desktop, or on any directory;
2. "Go" menu;
3. "Connect to Server...";
4.  Select your server by 1 of 3 methods:

a. select from the list of favorites
b. type in your server address (name or TCP/IP address)
c. 'Browse' the network

5.5.6 Using FTP to Windows computers

1. FTP transfer to your server from Fluoview Mac Pro by the "Fetch" application.

Look for an icon of a brown dog in the Dock at the bottom of the screen.

5.5.7 Remote access to the Mac Pro from your laboratory.

1. Log in by Apple File Sharing (from Mac) or FTP (from Windows).
2. Contact facility staff for log in information.
3. If you are not on a UW campus network, you will need to provide facility staff with the IP

address for your computer

Your lab does not have a server?  Perhaps your department provides server access for its faculty.  Any
Macintosh or Linux computer with a fixed IP address can be easily set up to function as a FTP server.
Windows is not as easy, but doable.  Peer-to-peer file sharing varies depending upon firewalls.

Server space is available within the DMC for users who need storage for their files for the duration of
image processing needs or the duration of an experiment.
