Oldfield – OD ’78
User Guide
Overview
OD’78 is an overdrive/boost pedal designed to enhance your guitar tone with a wide range of functionality from basic
clean boost to full on, smooth, creamy overdrive. Great care was taken in the design of the pedal to preserve both the
original guitar signal and the tonal characteristic of the amplifier being used. Incorporating a very unique “blend”
control, the Oldfield OD’78 pedal is one of the most versatile and useful overdrive pedals on the market today.
The Oldfield OD’78 is 100% hand made in the USA, one at a time, the old-‐fashioned way. If you want to add high quality
overdriven sounds, including clean boost, without changing the natural character of your guitar, the Oldfield OD’78 is for
you.
Using the Oldfield OD’78
Drive
Adjusts the amount of overdrive type distortion. Fully counterclockwise provides the least amount of gain and overdrive.
Fully clockwise provides the most gain and overdrive. * If the blend control is fully counterclockwise, the drive control
has no effect on the sound.
Tone
Adjusts the overall tone of the overdriven sound where turning clockwise results in a brighter sound. The 3-‐5 o’clock
position is
roughly
similar to an unchanged amount of brightness compared to the original signal. *If the blend control is
fully counterclockwise, the tone control has no effect on the sound.
Volume
Acts as a master volume control for the entire signal when OD’78 is engaged. Both the clean and overdriven sounds are
affected by the volume control and works the same regardless of the blend setting.
Blend
Blends the boosted clean signal with the overdriven signal. By judiciously blending in some of the boosted clean signal
with the overdriven signal player dynamics are preserved without losing sustain. Or you can blend in the slightest
amount of dirt with the clean signal.
Push Control
The push control adds just a bit more overdriven sound when engaged in the up position. It has more gain and works
well for creamer smoother sounds especially guitar solos.
There is also a slight change in harmonic structure of the overdriven sound. This is a subtle tonal change and you’ll
probably hear the gain change more readily than the harmonics change. When push is on, there are mostly odd
harmonics present, when off, some even harmonics are added.
*If the blend control is fully counterclockwise, the push control has no effect on the sound at all. It also has less and less
effect as the drive control is turned counterclockwise.
