COMPONENT DESCRIPTIONS

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Remove the right front wheel
2. Remove the inner fin
3. Remove top motor cover and end cap
4. Remove the belt from and, if necessary, the auxiliary drive belt tensioner unit.
5. For some tasks, it is necessary to remove the right motor assembly (motor bracket is required.)

Camshaft Locking Bar (Figure 1)

It is used to lock the camshafts independently of the pulleys on engines 

equipped with variable timing. It is inserted into the camshaft access 

slots, after removing the end cap as shown in Fig. 1.

Tensioner Pulley Locking Pin 

(Figure 3)

Used to lock the belt tensioner 

pulley in the retracted position,
as shown in Fig. 3.

Camshaft Pulley Locking Tool (Figure 2)

This tool consists of two parts, it is used to adjust and lock the camshaft 

pulleys. Assemble component (2) with camshaft pulley timing marks 

aligned as shown in Fig. 2. Make sure intake camshaft governor timing 

mark is properly set. Check that the component snaps into place.

Flywheel Retention Tool (Figure 4)

Retaining tool designed to slide between the engine block and 

crankcase faces, and engage the flywheel ring gear, so that it holds 

the crankshaft while the technician loosens or tightens the front pulley 

mounting bolt. Component (4) slides into position as shown in Fig. 4 

and is held in place with the motor mounting bolt, as shown.

Locking pin (Figure 5)

Used to lock the auxiliary drive belt tensioner in the retracted position.

Flywheel holding tool (Figure 6)

Designed to lock the flywheel ring gear by retaining the crankshaft 

while tightening or loosening the front pulley mounting bolt. It is used 

in gearboxes where component (4) cannot be used (eg Z16LET fitted 

on Astra-G and early Astra-H).
