Heating & Air Conditioning Systems
Diesel Furnace System
The boat is equipped with a Webasto
forced air furnace. This is a very
compact furnace that burns the same
Diesel fuel as the engines. The fuel
comes from one of the engine tanks, but
it uses a negligible amount of fuel, about
a pint each hour it actually runs.
The furnace is controlled by thermostats
throughout the boat. The furnace’s
built-in computer will warm up the
furnace, supply heat to the boat
until the thermostat senses it is warm
enough, then shut off the fans while the
furnace goes through a “cool-down”
cycle. You need not do anything but set
the thermostat.
As you can see, this furnace system
is very flexible and a great addition
to the boat! As long as the batteries
can support the modest DC power
requirement of the fans and furnace
blower, you will have plenty of quiet
heat.
Note the location of the furnace exhaust amidships on the starboard side of the boat! Care should be taken not to
block this outlet with fenders or while rafting due to the very high temperature. of the exhaust gases from the furnace.
It will instantly melt a fender or burn holes in the dinghy.
Air Conditioning
There are air conditioning units
throughout the boat which can cool it,
or operate “reverse cycle” to heat it —
although it is more efficient to heat the
boat with the furnace system above
.
The Air Conditioning uses considerable
quantities of AC power,
so you must be
plugged in to both 30-amp outlets, or
the generator must be running
.
The units use control panels. The up
and down arrows control the temperature; the button on the left turns the unit on and off, and the button with the fan
blade symbol controls fan speeds.
1. Turn on the Air Conditioning Pump in the AC breaker panel;
2. Turn on Air Conditioning units at AC breaker panel.
3. Make sure water is coming out cooling through hull on starboard side.
4. Activate thermostats by turning on units with button at bottom left of each panel.
5. Set desired temperature with up and down arrow.
6. Adjust fan speed with fan button.
