Passport 7400 Hardware Installation, Maintenance, and Upgrade 5.2S1

Installing a 3-slot Passport switch in a rack or cabinet

Install a 3-slot Passport switch in a rack or cabinet as an alternative to
mounting the switch on the floor or desktop.

Prerequisites

•

If your 3-slot Passport switch requires seismic protection, see “Installing
a 3-slot Passport switch in a seismic rack or cabinet” (page 210)

•

You will need a rack-mount kit with PEC NTHQ04AA.

•

The rack or cabinet must already be anchored and grounded. For more
information, see “Cabinet installation” (page 81).

•

If you plan to install a 3-slot Passport switch in a cabinet, check the
position and alignment of the vertical rails. Set the front rails 11.4cm (4.5
inches) from the front of the cabinet. Set the front and rear vertical rails
36.8 (14.5 inches) apart.

•

Install 13” termination panels prior to installing a 3-slot Passport switch
in a rack or cabinet.

Procedure steps

1

Attache the rack mount brackets to each side of the chassis using a
screwdriver. Attach the cable management bracket to the fan-less side of
the chassis. See the figure “Securing the rack-mounting brackets to the 3-
slot Passport switch” (page 208)

Position the chassis in the rack or cabinet.

3

Fasten the front brackets to the rack’s front rails using the four screws
provided. See the figure“Securing the rack-mounting brackets to the front
vertical rails” (page 209)

CAUTION

Risk of equipment damage

You need two people to install a 3-slot Passport switch
in a rack or cabinet: one person must hold the chassis in
place while a second person fastens the screws.
