Modem installation

Install a modem to enable a remote user to connect to the Passport switch for
entering and receiving local operator software commands.

•

Prerequisites to modem installation

•

Ensure you have a dedicated ac power outlet available to operate the
modem while it is connected to the switch.

•

Also, ensure the modem you want to use supports all of the required
settings. For more information, see “Modem selection” (page 141).

Modem installation task flow

This task flow shows you the sequence of procedures you perform to install a
modem. To link to any procedure, go to “Task flow navigation” (page 140).

CAUTION

Risk of service loss by incorrectly setting a modem

Failure to either configure hardware and software
settings properly or to use a cable that meets the
specifications in “Modem cable specifications”
(page 141) can cause the CP to crash and fail to reboot.
