STEP

1. Connect and test the power sup-
ply. If it tests OK, unplug the con-
nector from the power socket and
proceed.

2. Connect the first Sensor/ Keypad
cable to either one of the Sensor
inputs.

3. Test for shorts and interference.

4. Connect the flashers to the flash-
er outputs. If you need to extend
the wire, use a 2-conductor 16
gauge or larger (See Tech Tip on
page 6).

DESCRIPTION

A) Plug the supplied 12v DC power supply into an unswitched 120v AC outlet.

B) Plug the connector into the socket marked “Power” on the IRZ6+.

C) If the Power LED does not light, test the unswitched 120v AC outlet with
another appliance. If the outlet tests OK, you have a defective power supply
which must be replaced for you to continue.

A) Strip 1/4” of insulation from the wire ends of the cable.

B) Attach the exposed wire ends to the appropriate connector.  Be careful to
prevent a filament of wire from shorting out two connectors.  Red = +12v
Bare = GND        Black = DATA

A) Reconnect the power supply. If the Power LED lights and the IR Test LED
stays off, unplug the connector from the power socket and proceed to Step 4.
The following LED conditions show a fault:

• If Power LED is Off there is a short b12v and GND
• If IR Test LED is On or Flickers there is a short between DATA and GND or

Interference is present.

Before you proceed to Step 4 consult the Troubleshooting Section

DEDICATED FLASHER OUTPUTS

Each of the six dedicated flasher outputs receives IR commands from only the
corresponding Sensor/ Keypad input. It is critical that the IRC-2 is installed
with the blocking cover fully enclosing the flasher and the A/V component’s
sensor window.

CONFIGURABLE FLASHER OUTPUTS

Each of the four configurable flasher outputs receive IR commands from the
Sensor/Keypads selected via the Configuration DIP switches.

Select the zone Sensor/Keypad or combination of zones by moving the cor-
responding switch to the right (to the “on” position). If all of the DIP switch-
es for a flasher are set to the off position, that IR flasher will not work.

If all of the DIP switches are set to the on position, that IR flasher will repeat IR
commands from all of the zones.
Route the connecting 2-conductor wire to the IR Main System Unit. Connect
the ends of the wire to the corresponding positive and negative terminals
labeled “Flasher” on the IRZ6+.

BE SURE TO OBSERVE PROPER POLARI-
TY WHEN CONNECTING OR EXTEND-
ING THE FLASHER WIRE.

IRC-1: the wire lead marked with a
gray stripe is negative (-); the
unmarked lead is positive (+).

IRC-2: the silver colored wire lead is
negative (-); the copper colored wire
lead is positive (+).

Before you begin, make sure that the sensor/keypad
cables, the flasher cables, the status 12v DC wall adapter
cables and the 12v DC power supply cable will all reach
the proposed location of the IRZ6+. Mark the cables
with labels describing where the cable originates (rather
than which terminal on the IRZ6+ it should connect to).

For proper installation, follow the steps outlined in the cor-
rect order. If you discover a fault in the course of installa-
tion, go on to the Trouble-shooting Guide before continu-
ing with the next installation step.

Installation

Expanding the IRZ6+

You can create zones with multiple speaker locations by connecting a Niles speaker selector or impedance-matching
unit to that zone’s receiver. Niles volume controls can then be located in each room.
You can also equip a zone’s additional rooms with IR sensors using the XRP-6+ IR Expansion Unit. The XRP-6+ con-
nects to a sensor input on the IRZ6+ and in turn creates 6 more sensor inputs for use in rooms within that zone.

A Two Zone IRZ6+ System

In this example, a home theater receiver and a whole house receiver create a listening system where the home theater
can be used to listen to video or audio sources in surround sound, while simultaneously someone else can listen in the
rest of the house to a different. radio station or compact disc.

The system has only one VCR, but the VCR can be controlled from all zones.
