1. DESCRIPTION
The
electronic transformers
are short-circuit resistant safety transformers (safety extra-low voltage – SELV),
suitable for 12 V halogen lighting.
All models are class II independent transformers. The transformers have been produced in accordance with the
EN 61047 (performance), EN 61347-2-2 (safety), EN 55015 (radio interference), EN 61000-3-2 (harmonic
distortion), EN 61000-3-3 (voltage fluctuations) and EN 61547 (EMC immunity) standards. They comply with the
low-voltage guideline 2006/95/EC and the EMC guideline 2004/108/EC. They pass the 850°C filament test.
Note:
Product 320-00103 may not be regarded as a lighting fixture as set forth in the EN 60598 standard.
Consequently, the lamp holder must always be mounted in a class III fixture in accordance with EN 60598, or
the electronic transformer and the lamp holder must be mounted in a lighting fixture, taking into account the Tc
temperature.
Protection:
The transformers are fitted with an integral, self-resetting protection system that switches the
transformer off in the event of a short circuit, overload or excessive ambient temperature. When the cause of the
interruption has been remedied, the electronic transformer will begin to function again.
Dimmability:
All transformers are dimmable with phase control (
R,L
), reverse phase control (
R,C
) and
universal dimmers (
R,L,C
).
2. MOUNTING
- Products are for indoor use only, except 320-00106, 320-00107 and 320-00124.
- See figure 1 for the mounting of transformers 320-00101, 320-00102, 320-00103, 320-00104 and
320-00123.
- To flush mount transformers, an opening with a minimum diameter of 55 mm and a flush-mounting height
of at least 100 mm is needed (fig. 2), except for 320-00121, 320-00122, 320-00133, 320-00134 and
320-00135.
- To flush mount the transformers 320-00121, 320-00122, 320-00133, 320-00134 and 320-00135, an
opening with a minimum diameter of 38 mm and a recess depth of at least 100 mm is needed (fig. 2).
- Observe the minimum distances around the transformer and the minimum distance to the lamp (fig. 3).
- Optimal heat dissipation is required to guarantee proper operation (fig. 4).
Attention:
The electronic transformers must not be covered with thermally insulating materials.
- The cords and wires of the electronic transformers may not be replaced. If a cord or wire is damaged, the
product must be discarded.
- Limit the length of the output wires to 2 m (fig. 5).
- Do not connect the output wires of two electronic transformers in parallel (fig. 6).
- Keep the power supply wires (PRI) and the output wires (SEC) separate (fig. 7).
- Ensure that the L and N connections are correctly connected to transformers with double input terminals
(fig. 8).
- The use of 1.5 mm
²
and 2.5 mm
²
wires is allowed under certain conditions.
If the interconnection function of transformers 320-00101, 320-00102, 320-00103, 320-00104 and
320-00123 is used, the circuit must be protected by a 10 A fuse. No socket outlets may be incorporated
into these circuits.
- When flush mounting, take into account the allowable Tc temperature. See figure 9 for the Tc measurement
points.
- The transformers 320-00106, 320-00107 and 320-00124 have an IP65 protection degree. When
connecting these electronic transformers, a connection box with at least the same IP protection degree
should be used. A clamping block is not included. The advice of a qualified person may be necessary for the
installation of these products.
3. WARNINGS REGARDING INSTALLATION
- The installation should be carried out by a registered installer and in compliance with the statutory
regulations.
- This user manual should be presented to the user. It should be included in the electrical installation file, and
it should be passed on to any new owners. Additional copies are available on the Niko website or via the
Niko support service.
- During installation, the following should be taken into account (non-exhaustive list):
- the statutory laws, standards and regulations.
- the technology currently available at the time of installation.
- this user manual, which only states general regulations and should therefore be read within the scope of
each specific installation.
- the rules of proper workmanship.
4. NIKO SUPPORT
In case of doubt or for the specific exchange procedure in case of a possible defect, contact the Niko support
service in Belgium at +32 3 778 90 80 or your wholesaler/installer. Contact details and more information can
be found at www.niko.eu under the “Help and advice” section.
5. GUARANTEE PROVISIONS
- The period of guarantee is four years from the date of delivery. The delivery date is the invoice date of
purchase of the product by the consumer. If there is no invoice, the date of production applies.
- The consumer is obliged to inform Niko in writing about the non-conformity, within two months after stating
the defect.
- In case of a non-conformity, the consumer only has the right to a product repair or replacement free of
charge, which shall be decided by Niko.
- Niko shall not be held liable for a defect or damage resulting from incorrect installation, improper or
careless use, incorrect operation, transformation of the product, maintenance that does not adhere to the
maintenance instructions or an external cause, such as damage due to moisture or overvoltage.
- The compulsory regulations of the national legislation concerning the sale of consumer goods and the
protection of the consumer in the countries where Niko sells, directly or via sister companies, subsidiaries,
chain stores, distributors, agents or permanent sales representatives, take priority over the above-mentioned
rules and regulations.
