expose objective lens of an active unit to bright
light, including daylight. In the daytime objective lens must
be covered by cap. A tiny hole in lens cap provides enough
light for daytime testing.

aim an active unit at intense light sources, such as
lights, headlamps, campfires, the Moon, etc.

reverse the polarity of a battery.

connect the unit to the external power supplies.

remove battery when not in use for a long period.
