1 CUP (250ml)
sawdust pellets
Quick guide
Composting is a natural process to recycle food into fertilizer. Like other
natural processes, it takes time and the right balance. Sawdust is a “brown”
item which balances “green” food scraps. Baking soda reduces acidity.
1. BALANCE
your compost
EVERY TIME
you add food.
This ratio is important to prevent odors:
In case of odors,
add more
sawdust pellets and baking soda and wait 48 hours
before adding more food. Learn how to get free pellets at naturemill.com/free
2. CUT food scraps
into 4 inch (10 cm) pieces or smaller to
avoid jams or damage to the machine. DO NOT overload.
3. LIMIT
broccoli, garlic, citrus fruit, pineapple, to 2-3 small pieces
AVOID
paper, liquid, pits, bones, corn cobs, husks, hard stems
YOU CAN
add meat, chicken, fish, eggs, and dairy products.
See Food Guide (over) for a complete list.
The motor mixes every 4 hours.
It will
become quiet after adding some food.
Within 48 hours, the compost will start to look
granular and moist, with an earthy aroma.
Steam and heat are good signs!
Once the compost is well mixed
and earthy,
push OK
to transfer
to the lower tray. It will continue
to compost there. Wait at least 3-
5 days between transfers. Empty
the lower tray when full.
