Install the NI-VXI, NI-VISA, and NI-488.2 Software
This section describes how to install the 32-bit NI-VXI, NI-VISA, and
NI-488.2 software. Please carefully read these directions along with any
messages on the screen before making your selections.
Note
Only VXI-1394/G users will be installing NI-488.2 on their systems.
You can quit the Setup program at any time by pressing the Cancel button.
Setup is an interactive, self-guiding program that installs the NI-VXI,
NI-VISA, and NI-488.2 software and configures your system to use the
software with the VXI-1394. Follow these steps to perform the installation:
1.
For the CD, select Start»Run and enter the following text, where
X
is
your CD drive (usually D):
X:\setup.exe
and press <Enter>.
For the floppy kit, insert the first disk and select Start»Run... and enter
the following text, where
X
is your floppy drive (usually A or B):
X:\setup.exe
and press <Enter>.
2.
Click on the Next button at the Welcome screen to start the installation
and accept the license agreement.
Note
If Setup detects a 16-bit (DOS or Windows 3.x) version of the NI-VXI software,
it prompts you to remove it. Setup will quit so you can uninstall the old software. If you
have a previous 32-bit (Windows NT/98) version of the NI-VXI software installed, Setup
installs the new version over the previous version.
Caution
If you want to keep the manufacturer/model name tables or the VME device
configuration from a previous installation, be sure to back them up before starting Setup.
They are located in the
TBL
subdirectory of your NI-VXI directory.
3.
Select the type of installation from the Installation Options screen:
•
Express setup is the fastest and simplest installation option. This
option installs all the software in default directories.
•
Custom setup gives you more control over which driver
components you want installed on your system. This option is
recommended for advanced users.
