NI Switches Getting Started Guide

1. Verifying the System Requirements

Your system must meet certain requirements to use NI switch hardware products with NI-SWITCH. For 
more information on minimum system requirements, recommended system requirements, and 
supported application development environments (ADEs), refer to the 

NI-SWITCH Readme

, which is 

available on the NI-SWITCH media included with your hardware.

2. Unpacking

Each NI switch product ships in an antistatic package to prevent electrostatic discharge (ESD). ESD can 
damage several components on the NI switch product.

Caution

Never

 touch the exposed pins of connectors.

To avoid ESD damage when handling the NI switch product, take the following precautions:

•

Ground yourself with a grounding strap or by touching a grounded object.

•

Touch the antistatic package to a metal part of your computer chassis before removing the 
NI switch product from the package.

Remove the NI switch product from the package and inspect it for loose components or any other signs 
of damage. Notify NI if the NI switch product appears damaged in any way. Do 

not

 install a damaged 

NI switch product in your computer or chassis.

Store the NI switch product in the antistatic package when not installed in a chassis.

3. Verifying the Kit Contents

Verify that the kit contains the following items:

You can install the NI PXI-2800 carrier for NI SwitchBlock in an NI PXIe chassis if the back connector of the carrier connects 

to a PXI peripheral slot in the chassis.
