Complete the following steps to prevent a VI stored in Flash memory from
loading to the FPGA:
1. Power off and

g the PXI/CompactPCI chassis or PCI comp

ter.
2. Remove the NI 781 x R/783 x R from the PXI/CompactPCI chassis or
PCI comp
u
ter.
3. Move SW1 to the ON position, as shown in Fig
u
re 2-17b.
4. Reinsert the NI 781 x R/783 x R into the PXI/CompactPCI chassis or
PCI comp
u
ter. Refer to the Installing the Hardware section of the
Getting Started with R Series Multifunction RIO doc
u
ment for
installation instr
u
ctions.
5. Pl
u
g in and power on the PXI/CompactPCI chassis or PCI comp
u
ter.
After completing this proced
u
re, a VI stored in Flash memory does not load
to the FPGA at power-on. Yo
u
can
u
se software to config
u
re the NI 78 xx R,
if necessary. To ret
u
rn to the defa
u
lts of loading from Flash memory, repeat
the previo
u
s proced
u
re b
u
t ret
u
rn SW1 to the OFF position in step 3. Yo
u
can
u
se this switch to enable/disable the ability to load from Flash memory.
In addition to this switch, yo
u
m
u
st config
u
re the NI 78 xx R with the
software to a
u
toload an FPGA VI.
Note When the NI 781 x R/783 x R is powered on with SW1 in the ON position, the analog
circ
u
itry does not ret
u
rn properly calibrated data. Move the switch to the ON position only
while yo
u
are
u
sing software to reconfig
u
re the NI 781 x R/783 x R for the desired power-
u
p
behavior. Afterward, ret
u
rn SW1 to the OFF position.
+5 V Power Source
The +5 V terminals on the I/O connector s
u
pply +5 V referenced to DGND.
Use these terminals to power external circ
u
itry.
Newer revision NI 781 x R/783 x R devices have a traditional f
u
se to
protect the s
u
pply from overc
u
rrent conditions. This f

se is not

u
stomer-replaceable; if the f
u
se permanently opens, ret
u
rn the device
to NI for repair.
