ECL Emitter-Coupled Logic
EFD External Floppy Disk
embedded An intelligent CPU (controller) interface plugged directly into the VXI
controller backplane, giving it direct access to the VXIbus. It must have all of its
required VXI interface capabilities built in.
EMI electromagnetic interference
extended controller A mainframe extender with additional VXIbus controller capabilities.
Extended A form of Word Serial communication in which Commanders and
Longword Serial Servants communicate with 48-bit data transfers.
external controller In this configuration, a plug-in interface board in a computer is connected
to the VXI mainframe via one or more VXIbus extended controllers. The
computer then exerts overall control over VXIbus system operations.

fair requester A MXIbus master that will not arbitrate for the MXIbus after releasing it
until it detects the bus request signal inactive. This ensures that all
requesting devices will be granted use of the bus.
FCC Federal Communications Commission

GPIB General Purpose Interface Bus; the industry-standard IEEE 488 bus.
GPIO General Purpose Input/Output, a module within the National Instruments
TIC chip. GPIOs are used for connecting external signals to the TIC chip
for routing/conditioning to the VXIbus trigger lines.
