Appendix E: Nozzle Gas Flow Sensor (NGFS)

The Intelliream

®

MP offers an optional nozzle gas flow sensor (IRE060099-00) that will measure gas flow at

the end of the nozzle. This method is advantageous to an inline flow sensor installed in the gas hose as there
may be undetected leaks downstream.  By measuring gas flow at the nozzle, the point of use, the system
verifies adequate gas coverage for the weld puddle where it is required.

E.2 NGFS Integration

The Nozzle Gas Flow Sensor is installed in-line with the Nozzle Detect Sensor when purchased as an option to
the Intelliream

®

MP (see diagram below). The gripper head is customized to accommodate the mounting

bracket for the Nozzle Gas Flow Sensor. An M12 receptacle is mounted on the side of the gripper head for
interfacing with the Intelliream

®

control module, and the firmware is customized to enable a secondary of the

“Error” signal for nozzle flow indication.
